I said this in another thread but the problem we have here is that even *if* the Gov strikes a deal with the Road Haulage Association / ICMSA / ICSA etc, it won’t necessarily stop the blockades. The lads on the ground actually blocking the motorways / fuel depots / ports / refineries can simply say “not good enough” and we’re no closer to ending this then we were a week ago.

Hopefully they include ordinary motorists too or we can all repeat the same thing.

Didn’t see the farmers protesting to encourage the government to build houses x

Think that the protestors should be applauded not condemed as i see many comments with complaints and whataboutery. Peaceful action to an end goal. Hopefully everyone , even the naysayers benifit from these actions

  5. The lads protesting won’t be happy until every government minister resigns, we deport everyone who’s not white, drop taxes, raises state subsidies, and some other random nonsensical loosely associated grievances.

How many actual people are involved in this? It only takes one truck to block off a road. Will they lease out their trucks and tractors to the rest of us so we can get our demands met as well?

Discussions without the protestors will not stop the blockades, they’re not learning

It’s difficult to know what will come of this.. but I CAN guarantee one thing. The average Joe Soap, working person, will definitely get nothing out of this package.

    Serious question.

When the price of oil continues to increase to make this package meaningless, will these simple cunts be back out fucking things up for the rest of us?

    This is absolutely ridiculous.

We don’t even have the highest fuel prices in the EU and we are on a fucking island.

    Farmers can get fucked.

Micheál’s setting up an ‘Energy Efficiency Committee’.

    It’ll all be grand…

Farmers will make out like bandits here and the population who supported this bullshit will be left scratching their heads

Facebook needs to be banned, it’s brain rot for so many idiots who get bored

My friend said she saw something on FB about blocking schools

Remember when the taxi drivers thought they had public support for their protest against Uber? This protest reminds me of that quite a lot – where private contractors are asking us, the tax payer to (further) subsidize their industry.

I think the public are willing to accept peaceful protests, and will humour further talks and some concessions around the cost of fuel, but what i will no longer tolerate is further blockades of public roads, restriction of my right of free movement and my right to make a living.

If this situation continues, there will be counter protests.

I suspect what will happen is this, the schools are off for Easter this week, next week the kids will be back.

The (real) Boss at home will get pissed off running the kids back and forth to school on their own whilst husband is sipping pints in the evening on the protest and scoffing on Supermacs and no money coming in. That’s when the real shit will hit the fan and rational thinking will start to prevail…

Remember folks, if you want to legally run a racketing and blackmail scheme, become a farmer.

“substantial and significant” package of support for “key sectors of the economy”

So the farmers and hauliers get fuel relief.

Everyone else you’ll pay for it

Hold the fucking line lads. Give those who hold this country hostage not an inch.

If it was just stop oil or some other climate activists/protestors doing this, it wouldn’t have lasted 2 hours before the Gardai intervened. The government definitely wouldn’t meet them or agree anything based on it
