  1. Fair play to Westwood tbh. Wonder if those on phones are those who film their “content” while ignoring everyone else’s’ right to privacy. Really dislike how much of that happens in the gym these days. Pain in the hoop.

Don’t see anything wrong with it besides this:

    > hogging equipment for maybe more than a half an hour, 45 minutes,

When you do 10 sets with 5 minutes break in between, you can easily reach that

Banning people because they wear crocs is a bit harsh.

I mean, they’re ugly AF but a ban? Really?

Two guesses for the socio economic background of the shirtless types in there

“Did they get you on the old No Crocs rule? Nazis!

But with excellent facilities… as had the Nazis”

Make it the same rules as a swimming pool! No fucking cameras.

    >Another problem is that some men prefer to work out without a shirt on. While Mr Heaps said he ‘admires their courageousness’ in taking their top off publicly, it is not acceptable in an enclosed space.

    >“But for our larger member group, I don’t think it’s appropriate because we do have kids in some of our gyms as well,” he said.

Sweet suffering jaysus and the wee donkey. The anglophone countries’ fear of the human body and even just partial nudity really is something else. And I wonder do they force men to wear a t-shirt in the pool/sauna too? I mean surely the poor wee wains could get a woeful shock there too if they caught sight of a hairy chest?

Ive been a member for a long time and they have been seriously clamping down on etiquette foe a while now.

My sense is something very bad happened in one of the clubs that warranted it

I feel a bit mixed. I mean my gyms don’t have anybody going shirtless but women in like sports bras. I have no problem with men who go shirtless it’s just a little unconventional.

Hogging machines though yeah, doing 10 sets is unacceptable when it’s in any way busy. Taking more than 2-3 minutes rest too. Just general awareness is needed. I am more irked these days by the groups that hog. Cause you don’t know at an initial glance who’s actually using the machine, so don’t know if it’s just Sophie or is it Sophie then Tara then Jacinta too. Five times over, very slowly cause they’re giggling about not knowing what they’re doing. Ban groups I say.

  11. He mentions crocs, which i don’t really an an issue with (i have seen people wear slipper type shoes in one gym) but people who walk around in either socked or bare feet really grips my shit. I get people do deadlifts in their socked feet to get more grounded, but stay in your area and if you need to walk around throw your shoes/crocs on for others benefit

I go to the westwood in clontarf I see the actively stopping people access the gym floor without a sweat towel. I’ve been asked if I had one twice. Pulled it out of my drawstring bag

Don’t really get the ‘kids might see men without their tops on’ jazz. Those protected kids are in for a shock when they go to the beach.

But … its a well run set of gyms in fairness to them, and rules are actually a great thing in a gym for everyones ability to enjoy the experience.

Would be great if they would also fix the machines that have been broken for months

They forgot to flag this article as “paid material”
