It needed to be built 20 years ago. There are too many choke points in the city and laughably too few ways to get over the Corrib.
Galway has been the most ignored city in the country when it comes to roads and transport.
The ring road is the absolute minimum that Galway needs to compensate for its boom in population. We need park and rides, better bus routes and – even though we are a small city – we need a light rail due to everybody living in the West and working in the East.
I’d wager at least 80% of Galwegians want the ring road built.

Interesting POV here from Ciaran. He is credited as “architect and transport planner Ciarán Ferrie.” but from what I can see from his portfolio, I don’t see any evidence of his credentials as a transport planner. Which begs the question, what transport projects has he delivered? None that I can see, So why are we listening to him?
In another article, he uses the quincentennial bridge as an example of the same thinking used for this and believes this is some kind of own. Surely Ciaran knows that without this single bridge the city would be unpassable.
These folks and those who will come out of the woodwork to protest, loge complaints and publish nonsense should be treated with the same contempt as the far right are. The idea that making everything harder and more expensive is a lunatic theory that will kill the country if we don’t cut it out.
