SLC are just trying their luck for an error on their own part. Contracts work both ways and have to be honoured, if the SLC erroneously issued loans, well that’s tough luck.
Glad the university are backing these guys up who have been affected.

If it’s a loan then why not just let them pay it back at the normal rate? It’s an error not fraud and these people just wanted to learn. This needs to be dealt with in a common sense way.

A “loan” ALWAYS has to be paid back. That is what the word ‘loan’ means.

A useless article which fails to get the SLC’s stance given it had indicated it wants immediate repayment. This is clearly unrealistic.
Although not a lawyer I would be inclined to tell the institutions and the SLC they are not getting a penny until the issue is concluded legally and politically. Hopefully either a discounted or sensible repayment plan can be agreed.

Surprised that they gave him the loan for maintenance or that he applied ,when my daughter applied for her masters it was clear that there loan only applies to bachelors.

They should just clarify the rules, close any loopholes and write of any payments made in error. The costs would not be massive in relative terms.

Should not be paying that back it was applied for in good faith and if you were given the wrong advice then it’s on them.
