When you are getting too fat to fit into your trousers just buy new, bigger trousers. Top tip.
>The final irony of Ireland’s fuel protests is that they may turn out to be more effective than any climate protest in driving us away from fossil fuels. Intended to highlight the pressures faced by diesel-dependent industries, the tactics used by protesters showed that our vulnerability is the fossil fuel system itself.
I had a similar thought.
The likes of EV sales are on a continuous upward trend with petrol and diesel sales falling off. I’d wager the current situation will lead to a further increase in EV sales, in particular full EV rather than hybrid.

As for heavy vehicles, HGV’s in particular, switching to full EV for these is a no brainer. There are dozens of models on the market now to choose from. The bottle neck here being a HGV suitable charging network and the higher purchase price however this is not an unsolvable problem
1. A funding program to enable large vehicle (HGV, bus, van, motorhome etc) charging network. This would include both depot networks and public networks
2. A grant/rebate program for the purchase of EV HGV’s
Irelands chosen model of switching to HVO is a bizarre one as it utilizes agri land, requires raw materials to be imported if being made here, and is pegged to fossil fuel prices so has risen with the forecourt prices. There is no benefit to it apart form a greenwashing tactic
As with all of these things, the solution is there, just needs some political will to make it happen.
More hand waving nonsense.
Immediately dismisses nuclear power without a proper analysis. We already import a lot of it. Mildly suggests that the LNG importing is good idea, but drilling our own is bad.
Doesn’t address that there is no solution to diesel supply for agri and plant machinery.
Retrofitting isn’t reducing people energy usage, or protecting them for energy shocks.
Only solution presented is double taxation.
caused?
The government is spending €20 billion per year by not taxing fuel to €5/litre
“Tax me more daddy”
Everybody in the media and on reddit apparently
Alot of ivory tower takes here.
Strategic long term, yes, tactical fuel in the car so I don’t get fired, then no.
