    Saw an excellent NOVA episode (*Saving Venice*) on the MOSE barrier system. Disappointing that this innovative system is being undermined by the growth of algae.

    Is that just the usual financial shenanigans of dividing the R&D/construction costs across times used, or is there stuff like consumable devices that need to be replaced after each activation?
