Irish times working hard and work criticising Connolly the last few days.

>She said the language of the UN charter, which champions human rights, was being challenged by language “that now champions ‘might is right’”.
>She suggested the UN charter had been undermined “through the quiet retirement of inconvenient principles, and through our collective willingness to treat violations by powerful states as exceptional cases rather than the precedents that they have become”, and that there was a collective responsibility for this.
Good. Someone *should* be saying this for Ireland on the global stage, because it’s patently and tragically true. And I don’t think it reflects well on the government they are stressed out that it might be said by the President.

We’re a small island.
We have a housing crisis and a cost of living crisis (mostly caused by the government tbh)
We cannot cater for everyone. I dont think its racist for a country to prioritise its own citizens. We simply cannot accept anyone and everyone who wants to live here. This isn’t realistic for any country.
Our asylum system should be strict, but fair. Protect those who need it and send the chancers home.

“Defense of democracy” meeting in Barcelona. Are they aware?
Anyway, the International protection bill needs a complete overhaul – like a continent looking after themselves, after their own asylum seekers.

This is the legislation to make us compliant with the EU Migration pact, so it’s very funny seeing the right who are against the pact turn around and criticise the president for saying it has issues lolol
