    >Under a 1959 agreement, US military aircraft can fly over Ireland without prior permission as long as they are not carrying weapons or involved in active military operations. If these conditions are not met, the US must seek prior authorisation from Dublin.

    Fundamentally speaking, this agreement has allowed Irish governments to look the other way for the past 65 years. We can’t say what’s on the planes, just take the US at its word. In return we aren’t a sticky problem that might get special attention from the US authorities.
