Why, did they flood a Reform UK meeting in the process or something?
Well no wonder the people of Clacton haven’t seen him in months.
The article tells us that the reservoir was drained due to “essential safety improvements” but these are not stated in the article. Couldn’t the Guardian reporter have found out what the improvements were that were so urgent.
In a similar article, a spokesperson said it [the water firm] wanted to “identify ways to put things right for the future”. That implies that the works were not in fact essential and urgent.
Why can’t the water firm just say they messed up and not hide behind “safety”.
Good old passive voice. This should read:
## “Water Firm kills up to 1,000 toads”
Their ‘own ecologists’ either need to be listened to or prosecuted, along with the company.
That single word ‘may’ is doing the heavy lifting in this article.
Is this really news worthy? I hate water companies like everyone else but “more than 1000 dead toads” is a bit like reporting about over 1000 dead mosquitos due to speeding cars.
A country lane near my home has 100s of these poor little buggers pancaked on the road so maybe I should contact newspapers…
