  1. As someone who has a Jewish-sounding name and surname, I have had my name questioned multiple times in the past year by service staff, seemingly innocuously, but I have never had it happen before in my life.

This is the consequence of both the resurgence of the far right under Trump and Farage, but also Netanyahu falsely equating his genocide with the actions of all jews. This enables idiots from the left and right to attack normal people. It makes me incredibly sad.

We’ve normalised Antisemitism to the point the average reaction of some people now is to either deny it even happens or to justify the attacks on British Jews because of Israel

When Jewish people inevitably get murdered on our streets by someone angry over the actions of a country their victims are not even from we all know that the response of some people will be “Well what about the children in Palestine”

  4. First up, to be clear, I want to absolutely condemn anti semitism and this isn’t meant to be victim blaming, I hope the perpetrators are caught and suitably punished.

I do feel the efforts of pro Israel Jewish groups to link criticism of Israel to antisemitism may have seemed a great wheeze to derail Corbyn and the pro Palestine movement, but over time, as the IDF has committed more and more atrocities that association has placed UK Jews at risk.

There have been so many frivolous accusations of anti semitism for criticism of Israel that genuine concerns aren’t taken seriously, and being called antisemitic has lost a lot of its power as a deterrent.

Netanyahu’s govt getting a free pass while running around as a rogue apartheid state committing war crimes creates a lot of anger. The failure of Western govts to offer even the slightest check to this due to their perceived geopolitical interests also leaves them wide open to ‘Jews control the world’ narratives.

Not everyone understands the history and risks of those conspiracy theories, and it easy for bad actors to spread them against that background.

I honestly think robust criticism of Israeli excesses by UK Jewish groups, and some actual criticism and sanctions from the government would actually make UK Jews safer.

Arguably the biggest threat to Jews worldwide today is Israel.

I personally don’t get it. They’re just trying to live their lives like the rest of us, but this is wrong, on so many levels. I just don’t get what they’re doing that’s so wrong, that people act like this. And yet, other religions in this country that actually do horrible shit, like a certain religon that the BBC and Two Tier Kier, won’t go against, shit even Christianity is just as bad. I feel for them, my uncle is Jewish and he’s just as a normal bloke as everyone else.

Mods working overtime right now. The comments that make it through are quite revealing.

    Sad to see this.
No community deserves this but I find the Jewish community are generally so unproblematic to our society that it seems extra unfair.

I would imagine half of the people who act in this way wouldn’t have been able to place Israel or Palestine on a map until about three years ago
