Argentina will be pretty empty once they all go back to Spain though.

  2. Wanallo221 on

Trumps really given Milei’s government a great “Look over there, not at us burning the country down” opportunity hasn’t he?

  3. MR-DEDPUL on

    Irresponsible behavior from Argentina.

With everything that’s going on around the world, you pick now as a good time to square up?

    Why?

  4. Krabsandwich on

Well in that case the Argentines are off to Spain where their ancestors came from. They can leave the land to the indigenous peoples their ancestors took it from, unlike the Falklands which were uninhabited when the British arrived.

  5. Gaius_Caligula1979 on

Isn’t the Argentinian claim to the Falklands that it somehow inherited sovereignty from Spain? That’s like claiming post independence Uganda inherited the right to exercise authority over Egypt from the british empire.

  6. itsjustjust92 on

Oh look, a settler colonial country complaining about colonialism on a formerly uninhabited island

  7. jeanclaudebrowncloud on

Maybe Argentina should remove all their spanish people and the germans who weren’t good at rocket science

  8. dewittless on

What exactly does Argentina want with the island then? To rule the penguins?

  9. LWM-PaPa on

Look Argentina if you’re going to be saying England when you should be saying the UK then I just can’t take you seriously. Does someone want to send them that CGP Grey video?

  10. quarky_uk on

It is time to reassess the Falklands and Argentina relationship for sure, and they should be united if you think about it.

Just appoint an Minister for Argentina in the Falklands Government. The Argentina government obviously can’t run a country, so make them a department of the Falklands, and job done.

  11. changhyun on

“If we ethnically cleansed the entire population then the remaining population of zero would agree the island should be Argentina’s!” isn’t the argument she thinks it is.

  12. Early-Sir-8115 on

It’s because Melei is backed by Trump and Trump is angry UK didn’t support his illegal war against Iran

  13. Lucifer_606381 on

They were there before Argentina was even a country, Spanish descent settlers that invaded the nation that they are in now, telling people that settle on an uninhabited island is wild.

  14. Psychological-Ad1264 on

This is a list of the leaders Argentina has had since the war. All good native American names…

Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri (de facto, 1981–82)
    Reynaldo Bignone (de facto, 1982–83)
    Raúl Alfonsín (1983–89)
    Carlos Menem (1989–99)
    Fernando de la Rúa (1999–2001)
    Adolfo Rodríguez Saá (2001–02)
    Eduardo Duhalde (2002–03)
    Néstor Kirchner (2003–07)
    Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2007–15)
    Mauricio Macri (2015–19)
    Alberto Fernández (2019–23)
    Javier Milei

Typical of argentines to be ignorant enough to think that the UK = England, when the settlers were more Welsh/Scottish than English per capita.

Maybe they should focus their energy on improving their economy, or learning to speak proper Spanish – or indeed actually learn Italian, instead of just cosplaying as Italians like the yanks do.

  16. LargeLetter1 on

    Dear Argentina,

We can’t keep having this conversation every time your economy is tanking x

  17. Competitive_Pen7192 on

It’s all words, even a British military in it’s current form would likely completely trounce any Argentine invasion attempt now with what’s already on the island. If the QE2 carriers got there in time to relieve it then it would be even more lopsided…

  18. TheAllSeeingEyeGuy on

It’s been 215 years since the spanish left the falklands, argentina didn’t even exist then. I can’t understand why anybody still cares about them. There are an overwhelming majority of e̶n̶g̶l̶i̶s̶h̶ british people there and 99% of the people living there want to stay a part of the UK, so I say let them stay, as I don’t see how argentina getting the falklands would even benefit their country.

  19. Plodderic on

If they’d not invaded in the 1980s, they’d probably have been able to win the Falklanders over by now. Falklanders always used to go to Argentina for medical treatment and to access the wider world via flights, shipping etc. However if you take over someone’s home at gunpoint it tends not to endear you to them and it tends to stick in their and their descendants’ minds for a very long time.

  20. defransdim on

There’s plenty of people living in the Falklands who are fifth generation Falklander. They’re not English.

  21. ThereAndFapAgain2 on

We should build a big fuck off city on the islands and encourage a load of people to move there and put this shit to bed lol

  22. AceOfSpades532 on

So Argentinians should all go back to Europe too then, since they’re the descendants of settlers?

  23. InterestingBet2096 on

That’s a nasty little racist statement to make in the 21st century. Maybe the indigenous people of Argentina think the same thing about those who descended from European settlers.

  24. Can’t wait for that wife-beating, baw sack faced cunt Sean Penn to come out of the woodwork to bore everyone with his expert opinion.

  25. PulsatingBalloonKnot on

Not a day goes by where the Argentinian Clarín is getting all worked up and spitting feathers over having their arses handed to them back in 1982.

  26. BaggyBloke on

Bit rich as they were living there before Argentina existed. As she has a Spanish name, maybe she should go ‘back’ to Spain first.

Argentina is an colonising power that treated the locals as badly as any other.

Her ancestors wiped out of 80% of the indigenous people in the first 150 years, and then later massacred, enslaved and displaced thousands of Mapuche and others

Then in another land grab the Selk’nam people in Tierra del Fuego were systematically eliminated through land theft and direct killing.

  27. RaidersGunz on

Its Englands territory, nothing to do with the Argies, never has been. When the Brits landed there, there wasnt a single person on the island. Because it was uninhabited prior to European discovery in the 17th century, Argentina has no claim whatsoever.

  28. Theres only two ways I can ever see the islands becoming Argentinian, the first would be the population of the islands voting to do so, that will never happen.

The second would be an invasion by Argentina fully backed (and probably led) by the US which if that happens indicates much bigger problems than just the islands ownership.

Despite what Argentina (and perhaps the majority of the UN) thinks they are British islands and will remain so until their population votes for something else.

  29. go_get_the_guitar on

The Falklands have been British (with no indigenous population displaced or wiped out) for longer than Argentina has existed, I suggest if anyone should be ‘going back’ then they’re more likely to have Italian, Spanish or German roots. A word of warning though for any of those Germans ‘going home’….the old country has changed a LOT….

  30. AMoonMonkey on

Falklanders only exist because of the British, before that it was just an island covered in bird shit.

  31. NetflixVodka on

And Argentines should go back to Spain and Italy? I mean, most have them have been there for less time than the Falklander’s have.

  32. Turbo_Baggins on

Even if all the locals did leave there’s no reason for the international community to accept Argentina’s claim over the islands as it’s nowhere near their maritime boundaries. You’d probably get half a dozen countries all suddenly deciding they should be in charge.

  33. Constant-Estate3065 on

Falklanders aren’t from England you silly bastards, they’re from the Falkland Islands.

  34. PurahsHero on

Can’t wait for Argentina’s population to go back to Spain and Germany, in that case.

  35. Suspicious_Steak_696 on

The sooner we disconnect ourselves with relying on oil the sooner these stupid squabbles can go away.

  36. Cersei-Lannisterr on

O boy oh boy I can’t wait for what the argentines should do

  37. Argentinians should go back to Spain, Germany and the other countries they largely came from (and then did as much as humanly possible to displace the indigenous people).

Then we can start talking about The Falklands.

  38. slaveofficer on

Maybe its time we stationed a nuclear capable submarine in the area. Just to show it off and all that.

  39. Fast_Apple_2237 on

Argentina needs to look at its own demographics, settler colonists never had a write to displace native populations

  40. karkonthemighty on

It’s a war of words because it’s not like Argentina could wage any other type of war with the state of their military.

  41. Anansi-the-Spider on

Oddly most Falkland islanders are of Scottish and Welsh descent

  42. StandardNerd92 on

They don’t come from England, they come from the Falklands. Generations born there.

  43. Pathetic sabre rattling from the Argentine government. Even if they threw the entire Argentine military at the islands they would be extremely hard pressed in actually taking them.

This conversation is only popping up again because Trump wants to score some easy points against Starmer as he refused to join another half cocked Middle Eastern war.
