Oh, the occupiers extracting Estonian natural resources and teking them to Russia. During the whole occupation huge amount of resources were taken out of Estonia. Financially Estonia was net payer in Soviet union. The worst were the years after the war when of the whole budget income collected in Estonia only 1/3 was spent in Estonia.

The Kohtla-Järve oil shale industry had been developed since 1920s. The factory was on the background of the 1935 100 krooni note. During the war the factory was heavily damaged. Occupiers started the factory. They didn’t conceal their goals from the struggling population – the whole factory worked under the banner “Gas for Leningrad” boasting with the steal of Estonian resources. An article from 1947 describes, how Estonia’s goal in Soviet Union is to serve Russia.

Soviets announce for the population of war stricken Estonia that “the largest projects in the Estonian SSR during this Stalinist five-year plan is the construction of a gas factory in Kohtla-Järve and the construction of a gas pipeline from there to Leningrad.”

They continue how much better stolen Estonian resources make the life of Leningradians

“There will be no need to transport wood from the station to the warehouse, from the warehouse to the dwelling; there is no need to saw and break down trees. To heat a room or cook food, a person only turns on the appropriate tap, and gas is at his disposal. In 1950, each Leningrad resident received 165 cubic meters of gas per day. If we add the gas consumed by enterprises of general use (saunas, laundries, etc.), then each Leningrad resident received up to 500 cubic meters of gas per day. The inhabitants of no other city in the world have such an amount of gas.”

All things that Estonians at the time could only dream of. They conclude “in the Soviet Union, all benefits belong to the people and are at the service of the people.” after long story how resources are taken out of Estonia it is pretty clear that the people are Russians, not Estonians.
