There is going to be a lot of buyers remorse this summer, for sure.

Reform have done good job running Staffordshire. They kept the council tax down. 1.9% optional increase on tax plus 2.0% increase on adult social care precept.

One thing about Jill Hood that the article fails to mention is that she also councillor for Stafford Borough and Stone Town Councils. Also she is member of cabinet for Stafford Borough which she is in coalition with Labour.

I’m not sure the attack line of “Reform are bad at running councils” is the one to go with really, it seems like it would be quite easy to respond to with many example of the other parties poorly running councils?
The way the reporting around Reform is to n this seems to come from some fantasy land where all the other councils are run incredibly well.

While corruption and incompetence are endemic to many councils (as demonstrated by Private Eye’s Rotten Boroughs column), Reform tend to be worse than average.
So far, nearly 80 councillors have either quit, resigned or defected (including the occasional councillor experiencing buyer’s remorse and returning to the Conservatives), their initial hopes to decrease council tax have been instead replaced with not increasing it as much as they could have done, and while they insist they’re not racist, they have attracted people with racist, Xenophobic or white supremacist views (although that cohort are now being attracted by Restore, which is explicitly advocating for “remigration” and while officially wanting to disallow anyone without British Citizenship from standing for office, on social media, tends to rail against any ethnic minority candidate standing for Reform).
In Warwickshire, Reform’s leader narrowly survived a confidence vote with Conservative support, while Worcestershire replaced their leader after instituting £20m cuts in capital spending, increasing council tax by 9% and securing a £79m EFS loan from the government to avoid issuing a s114.

But this is the 1 real legitimate reason to want Reform in power: if you despise the system enough that the only solution you see is destroying it no matter the pain.
I’d be more worried if they actually were successful and competent. They might actually being in some sort of totalitarian white supremacist state.
But they can’t, because they are incompetent. So they will just help the ship sink faster, given that no one in power has any interest is actually taking a meaningful difference course of action.

I dont think people get how badly a Reform run uk would go, think Tories but even more far right, racist and making it up as they go. They Will destroy an already emaciated economy.

Can’t run a council, one council and this is what the majority of the British public wants to run the country… stupidity beyond belief

They’re grotesquely bad at actually running things.

They talk a good game but the problem they have is that nothing they say stands up to basic scrutiny. When statuary council roles are costing more and more to run, you cannot just claim you will cut council tax because it turns out you do not actually have the budget to absorb that cut. That much is obvious to anyone with some basic literacy and common sense, which excludes those voting Reform.

The sooner people realise that these goons have no interest in the nation only in there own power or racist agenda. I think some might be able to get it but some are just lost or have no idea what they are voting for I mean you seen that in the US

I think the idea that Reform voters will see the light when the party inevitably screw up local government is a fiction.
This is Trumpism all over again. They will not care. As long as they *feel* immigrants are getting worse treatment, they will hand wave away everything else, just as MAGA have.
I’ve seen it first hand with relatives. When I’ve pointed out Reform policy I know will directly affect them or they disagree with, they minimalise it. ‘Oh it it won’t be that extreme’ ‘ I’m sure it won’t come to that’ , ‘Thats just a fringe element of the party’.
I think anyone banking on Reform voters regretting their support are in for a big shock

Those policies helped small businesses with grants to improve their energy efficiency and reduce the enormous cost of energy.
Our business landlord put a 60kwh solar array up with a grant, we did a load of energy improvements to our unit with a grant.
All Reform have done is fuck over small businesses, which should come at no surprise to anyone.

Paywall… Whoever has access, could you please give a short brief of what exactly is bad in that particular council in comparison to others?
