Eravamo nella città di Samar, dove ci è stato detto che sarebbero arrivate al massimo 400 persone. Ma lo sentiamo abbastanza spesso… e in un certo senso lo avevamo previsto. Quindi, per sicurezza, abbiamo portato patatine e snack extra. E si è rivelata una buona decisione. Alla fine siamo riusciti a servire con patatine fritte e snack circa 850-900 persone. Tanti bambini entusiasti, lunghe file e volti sorridenti ovunque. Questo è esattamente il motivo per cui lo facciamo.

American here. After the shooting at Virginia Tech I felt such a deep sense of lost and listlessness. Then the food trucks showed up, handing out free food and treats. There’s something about the hope, love, and connection shared food that can help re-ground community going through hardship. My soul found a little bit more rejuvenation to endure the next day and I still think fondly with appreciation of that moment nearly 2 decades later.
My heart aches knowing our day of terror is just a small glimpse into the ongoing senseless violence. Thank you for your kindness and being there and making such a positive impact. Slava Ukraini!
