Glasses in Germany don’t cost hundreds of euros. You can pay more for the frame (unless you want an extremely basic one), and keep in mind that basic lenses are gonna be thick, have no filters, no special protection and will likely need replacement soon. Overall though there’s nothing wrong with buying that if your budget is really tight. You can even get glasses at dm for €10 if you want

It’s like going to Netto, buying the cheapest frozen stuff and then wondering why everyone says that groceries in Germany are expensive

Those basic frames are often not that pretty and glasses are basic, but they are definitly legit.
i was wearing those when i studied and money was tight.

I’m not sure but when I was buying my glasses I got lenses for free and only paid for the glasses

if you go for a fielmann standard frame it’s cheap.
I’ve bought some fully pimped sunglasses years ago for 80€ that would have cost hundreds elsewhere

I’d say yes, cause it seems its only the glasses. There would be a frame you’d need too. Which would obviously make it get around 100€ or.more if you take a cheap one. There are also expensive ones if you want specific brands. Yet i heard too that Fielmann is going to expell anything thats not made within Fielmanm itself. But thats smt else.

    >Is it legit or is there any downside I’m not seeing?

The fact that it’s “Basic-Gläser”, meaning likely the most basic version with no special features.

As someone with a considerably worse vision, those would probably be too thick for me. They also likely won’t have anti-reflection coating (which I remember not having as a child, and which I never, ever will have glasses without), or possibly protective coating to prevent scratching etc.

(Edit: the next round, I suspect I’m going to need bifocals, as having to take the glasses off when reading nearby things gets old… those “basic” lenses wouldn’t have that either.)

I wear glasses basically every waking moment where I’m not in or under water. I wear glasses for years before I replace them. If more comfort when using one of my basic senses costs me a few hundred Euro, that’s what it costs me. It would be different of course if I didn’t have the money for them.

This is legit, and I would highly suggest you visit one of their stores and look at the frame. It the same price in stores. The people working their usually help finding everything for you.

The price really depends on the amount of sight correction and if you want to spent extra on slimer materials and a different frames that are more expensive.

My mother e.g. is paying way more because of the correction she needs and the lens material recommended to not have giant lenses. She is averaging about 100-200€ per galsses including a nicer frame.

Its legit. No designer frames, thicker glasses, not hardened and no special coatings, but they will do their job fine

  9. > Is it legit

Legit. Below 1 (or -1) dioptre people often don’t even wear glasses, that’s why it’s so cheap. “Window panes”, as the joke goes.

    > I have always heard glasses in Germany costs 100s of euros

My glasses do cost 100s of euros, but I am a lot more short-sighted, I have prisma on top of the cylinder, I do pay extra for lighter weight glasses (which makes sense at my strength), and I pay extra again for anti-reflective.

None of which is necessary for your strength.

  10. Yes, it’s legit.

This is really basic frames and basic lenses.

Do yourself a favour and pay the upcharge for the anti reflective coating of the lenses I assume these cheap ones don’t have.

My recommendation is when you are in a city with an fielmann store go to it. You can book an appointement online but you really don’t need to. You might have to wait a few minutes but they probably can help you…

The basic frames are pretty pretty basic and depending on your headshape might look a little off… And the basic glasses are potent to scratches… I have Comfort in my glasses.

I have been getting my glasses from this website for years: selectspecs.com

I totally recommend them, you have the brand-less glasses for really cheap, or branded glasses. I go brand-less and pay 30-40€ for glasses with blue light filter.

  14. ShitJustGotRealAgain on

The price is legit, but it’s just the bare glass. No coating, no extra light weight, no plastic lenses, no multi focal, no tint, no nothing else.

  15. Why_So_Slow on

Legit. I buy those basic glasses as sunglasses – they get abused enough oitdoors not to be worth a high price. I buy a little better ones for my all day long glasses, but better = thinner lenses and added coatings. I couldn’t care less about the label on the frames, I pick what looks good.
