Recentemente mi è stato consigliato questo video in turkmeno iracheno ed è per l’80% azero e per noi totalmente comprensibile. Perché è così? E perché in questo caso vengono chiamati turkmeni e non azeri iracheni?
Questa lingua ha anche alcune parole dal turco. Ad esempio, ha detto "Cami"non "moschea" come diciamo

Some Azerbaijanis told me, and from what I know, is that the Turkmens influenced the Azerbaijanis/Azaris/Other Caucasians in North and South Azerbaijan linguistically via conquering, they are both Oghuz.

Despite some influence from Turkish, it’s a dialect of Azerbaijani. The boundaries of the Azerbaijani language extend beyond the borders of the republic.

Historically, Turkoman(türkman) was a term for people of Oghuz origin. Turkic people in Iraq and Syria have preserved this name.

They are Turkman (İraq və Suriya Türkmanları) not Turkmen or Turkmenistan
Becasue we are all Oğuz Türks and we speak Oğuz branch of Türkçe (Türk dili) with different dialects.
The difference comes from regional differences.
Even in Türkiye, different regions have got different dialects (Ağız). Same for others Oğuz Türk origin countries.
In modern day the differences are bit more restricted between Big city people and Rural people.
For a Türk from Türkiye it is easier to understand Azerbaycan, Gökoğuz (Gagauz), Balkan and other Oğuz dialects compared to understanding Kıpçak or Karluk branch. But we still understand them aswell becasue they also speak Türk dili.

We are not mutually intelligible with kipchak. Some words here and there, that’s all we catch. Not that a Turkish guy can’t learn a kipchak language in a short time. But kipchaks themselves ( tatars, bashkorts, kazakh and kirghizs) speak Russian more than their native language, so it may be a better idea to learn Russian rather than learning a kipchak language to communicate with kipchaks.
Turkmen was a phrase used to describe Turkic ppl who didn’t look east Asian (atleast in the Timurid and Ilkhanate times) and judging that the Oghuz languages started to spread in the middle east from Turkmenistan it makes sense why would not just them but all Azerbaijani and Turkish ppl fall under the Turkmen umbrella
Why aren’t they called Azerbaijanis? Because they’re not apart of what was historically Azerbaijan, infact most of modern Azerbaijan isn’t either and only started to be seen as Azerbaijan because it became impossible to distinguish them with their southern neighbours, Turkmen ppl on the other hand are very ez to distinguish from all their neighbors
Also all oghoz dialects were easier, like my dad can understand Ottoman Turkish perfectly but struggles with modern Turkish
