Neu-Ulm exists, but for me it feels like a part of Ulm even though it is a completely different Gemeinde.

They were one city until 1810, when they officially separated. Even today, they function as one city rather than two separate ones. Ulm has the most historically and culturally significant buildings, but I think Neu-Ulm is also very nice. It has the Donaubad, for example, and I found the Christmas market in Neu-Ulm much more charming than the one in Ulm. And if you’re just walking along the river it doesn’t make that much difference in which side you are
