Asking Starmer to set a date of resignation is pretty amateur hour too, just announcing a date in and of itself is an immediate resignation. He would have no power.

It was a joke when the tories did it and it will be a joke if Labour does it, the country deserves some stability and it would be nice if we could go a full parliament without looking like clowns on the international stage.

If this software that Jess Phillips is resigning over can be used ONLY for the purposes in which she claims, ie. to prevent the production and dissemination of child sexual abuse material, then I’m all for it. The less of that, the better. However, I am not so naïve to believe that implementing this tech onto all our smart devices will be used solely for that purpose. It’s hardly a stretch of the imagination to assume that software designed to scour your photos for indecent images could not be altered to scour your photos for whatever the government wants to find, such as facial recognition, plans for protests etc.
I’m not a software developer, so I’d love to be proven wrong, but I don’t think, after the past decade of snooping and privacy erosion based on “won’t somebody think of the children” that I am wrong to be so paranoid.
