If we only had measurable progress on the matter of end storage. it feels like it goes at a snails pace. We operate Power plants since the 60s and we still haven’t done a final storage.
People opposing nuclear energy surely would be a bit more quite if we had that fixed AND FINANCED. (Because to me its obvious the money put aside for this won’t be enough, like always in big projects.)
But also, that one reactor that was shut down, was not turned off because of the time it was allowed to run, but because of the money required to keep it up to date.

It’s the only logical solution to a bunch of political devisions made made in a un rational way.

      We need stable energy sourcing.
I’m full for local renewable energy sources but we need them. Every bigger solar, water or wind project faces tons of problems just to be approved.

Remember when we had to vote against nuclear? A minority told us to watch for energy shortage. And these are the consequences.

We were not able to push enough for renewable.

I don’t know if it is smart to follow the German energy transition path, they are suffering immensely. Especially during the winter.

Our industry is already facing a lot of hardship and an energy price hike is definitely something they don’t need in order to stay competitive. We need more of them, not less.

We have enough solar power within 6-8 years for summer, 6-8 years more for winter. We will not need that shit anymore

We need more renewables… But maybe we also need to replace our aging nuclear reactors with modern ones?

    6. WalkItOffAT on

Yes, that’s needed. But we ideally should build a Gösgen II, ie a new nuclear powerplant.

Boomers: “let’s not have nuclear, think of the future generations and the spent fuel cells!”

      Also boomers: “it’s *my* environment”

I don’t understand this people say OK we can just import but the only thing you will be importing in the dark winter days is nuclear energy. Why is it better to have it 50 km over the border than in house where we can have good oversight on everything. I can assure you, the Swiss standards are much higher than what they have in France. And by importing, you are only motivating the pro-nuclear countries to build more nuclear power plants. as we know if shit hits the fan, you have no umbrella. fallout does not care about borders. so I am just saying, as it stands economically, technologically, for the coming minimum 50 years it is inevitable that we will need nuclear power in Europe. So by not building it here you’re just gonna make it very profitable for the French and Hungarians and everybody else who is activelz building nuclear power plants to build even more and export at nice high costs.

the gögen plant has been running since the 70s and they keep extending it, makes sense given how expensiv our electricity already is. if these plants can actually go 80 years thats pretty good news for everyones bills tbh

Does this surprise anyone? US already has license extensions for many units till 80y and Westinghouse says there aren’t any major problems they’ve discovered to reach a century of operation.
