Rubio literally admitted that he used to support NATO for the European bases for the US to project power rather than because it’s a defensive alliance. What a dickhead.
These guys keep saying they want to leave, but they never pull the trigger because closing the european bases will seriously dent USA’s ability to project power and the weapon deals are way to sweet.

I also question the point of US remaining.
Don’t see a need to actively kill the alliance but its not worth fighting to keep it alive. If the US wants to leave they are free to do so. Having them constantly whine is not worth it.
The interests at stake are simply the projection of American power through Europe, which allows for attacks in the Middle East, for example, and also sovereign domination over European military defense through so-called interoperability, which allows for selling off and controlling one’s allies.
Can we go on much longer?

Actually they should leave NATO and pull out the troops. As long as US militarily present in Europe is an ever excuse for politicians to do nothing or do not enough with our European defense capabilities.
But once the USAF is out for good, there is no other option but to get a grip and build up a modern and capable united army for Europe. Strictly for defense capabilities, being precise to make sure Russia will never even try to test it.
This is doable. We need some time for sure, but given the current situation in Russia that we have. Money is not an issue. Manpower will be more tricky , but again the EU is huge and we need to secure the eastern flank only. The political will is the big question and of course as always the execution.
Because I think there is a time to leave behind the old reflexes and standardize the equipment and choose one weapon for one task and not develop and maintain different ones . And also it should be a European command not a national. And this is into unheard for hardline nationalists otherwise we can see many working examples within NATO.
So summa summarum: just do it!
So how long do we have to listen to this stupidity? When do we wake up and realize that this is not an ally?

Either way is bad for the US. All this circus is to make Europe to beef up its military so it can support the US better when if needed.

Let’s not forget the only time that NATO actually supported a member state that had been attacked was9/11 and Afghanistan.
The US no longer prioritises democratic European states over a Russian dictator. So he is right there isn’t a point in staying in NATO for them since that was rather the original point.
Still, at least that gives us an opportunity to stay out of,as much as is even possible, any US/China conflict. Though I feel sorry for ( Ukraine obviously but also ) Taiwan.
But what is the upside of the USA leaving NATO? They will redeploy their troops elsewhere, possibly to the Pacific theater, but would that make a difference in deterring China? They will save some money, sure, but that’s also probably not much compared to their total military budget.
They’ll do anyrhing to prevent Putin’s kompromat on Trump being published.

In 2024, Marco Rubio co-sponsored a bill in the US Senate, along with Tim Kaine, which was passed by President Joe Biden, which forbids any sitting US president to withdraw from NATO without the approval of the Senate.
It’s universally recognized that the bill this was passed because of Trump’s constant efforts to undermine NATO when he was president.
At the end of the day, Rubio’s daily involvement in the Trump administration shows that he has no soul for anything. He doesn’t have a chance of becoming president because Trump supporters see him as a globalist, and everyone else sees him as a sellout.
The US can leave, Rubio. Ramstein Airbase would be a massive loss to the US and the EU can make good use of it instead.
Rubio is temporary, long term geopolitical agreements outlast politicians careers.

All this blaming NATO is all a desperate diversion from the fact that the Iran war is a complete clusterfuck. They believed that all the money spent on expensive weapons meant the US military was unbeatable. They completely underestimated Iran’s capabilities in actual war, and in hybrid warfare, and were totally blindsided by Iran’s ability to hold the world to ransom. All the US has achieved is hardening the resolve of the Iranian regime to get nuclear weapons. (And BTW, the Iran war itself was another diversion and/or a result of leverage by Israel).
Well it makes it harder for Trump to attack the rest of NATO, when Putin orders him to.
