      We’re #1! 🥳 We’re #1! 🥳 We’re # . . . oh. 😞

What a stupid list. Composite rankings create a false sense of precision. Turning dozens of complex societal tradeoffs into a single ordered list implies a level of objectivity that doesn’t exist. A country can be exceptional for one person and undesirable for another; depending on income, identity, profession, values, or life stage.

Should economic growth matter more than social cohesion? Should cultural influence outweigh environmental sustainability? Is individual freedom more important than safety or stability? Different people, cultures, and political systems answer those questions differently.

No offence to the Netherlands or Finland but by what measure are they better countries than Australia?

Why are so many Europeans mad that they have a good country?

There’s a reason why Canada is not higher. Don’t get me wrong, Canada is still a pretty greatest country. But it’s not at all like western Europe.

Here’s why Canada is not higher on the list

      1. 8 months of winter

      2. Everything is so spread out, want to go to the next big city? Enjoy your 12 hour drive. Same with our cities, oh wait to go get a loaf of bread, 30 minutes. OK I get this is not always the case, but far too often it is.

      3. Our southern neighbor, need I say more

      4. Cost of living is climbing and climbing and our wages are not.

      5. Quebec and Alberta and their none stop separatist talk

      6. Out of control immigration and a poor temporary foreign workers program. ( to be clear in pro immigration, but as it stands right now it’s a pretty broken system)

I know Europe still has its issues, but you should all be thankful. Hopefully you will fix some of your issues , especially with Orban out, maybe the EU will have an easier time fixing itself.

The problem with these kind of lists, especially for EU countries, is that it makes borders more important than they can be in reality. What does it matter to Luxembourgish people that their country has a lower ranking than its neighbors in the “Tourism & Culture” category when they can enjoy their “Tourism & Culture” as or even more easily than local inhabitants?

Man… Ireland would crush this if we had a natural environment and/or infrastructure hahaha

Republicans think MAGA land with an Orange ape as leader is the best.

    9. just out of curiosity, what does it mean that Italy has a score of 36 in “world heritage sites” when it is the country with the most UNESCO sites in the world?

Switzerland is #3 in culture & tourism while Spain is #19?

      I declare grand shenanigans.

I get that the list is just for fun, but I find it strange denmark and sweden are 2 and 3, but finland is 8. was this written by a dane? lol

I would be happy about it if it wasn’t bullshit.
I was suggested their list about culture and tourism just after.
It places USA first (ok I don’t necessarily agree but I see that and it’s definitely in my top 5 even 3) then Switzerland in second and like wtf man? Culture and tourism?

    14. Europe is not a country; it is a continent made up of various countries.

I don’t think they considered items like xenophobia. The list would look quite different.

Not that I’m complaining about the list itself, but these “best” lists always strike me as odd when they omit best “at what” in the headline. This I would say is a list of best countries “to live in, to make a stable life in”. Which is wonderful, I think. But I recognize there are people who might see best as best “to get stupid rich in” or best “at exploding things (intentionally)” which are very different lists.

Jokes aside, the breakdown into score components in the usnews website is super interesting, more so than the list even.

One of the reasons the US administration would like to see us fail, at some point in the near future is gonna look pretty bleak for the average American citizen and seeing how the European societes work, its gonna be a tough sell.

I believe its one of the reasons the Russians invaded Ukraine aswell, when they started to voice a wish for a EU accession.
