It’s a proposal for contractors pretending to be a proposal for the public.
The contractor should be madeliable for all of the expensenses incurred in these cases.
The taxpayer should not be there to bail out the construction industry.
It’s just another example of how this government continues to side with developers over ordinary citizens (case in point being the reluctance of opening a public inquiry in the Jean Paul Sofia case).
Instead of letting developers’ insurances bear the brunt and let them deal with their own consequences, or at the very least reforming the judicial system to make it more efficient so such cases aren’t prolonged unnecessarily (something which has been promised time & time again), the solution is using taxpayers’ money.
This government has proven and continues to prove that they’re incapable of coming up with long-term solutions to our country’s problems (which explains the glitz of this election campaign and the million and one promises). Traffic? Give out money and hope people give up their license. Rising costs of living? Indefinite energy bill subsidies. Overpopulation? Deport a handful of illegal immigrants every now & then and promote it across social media & TV. Construction? Create ‘green open spaces’ that look anything but green.
People still don’t make the connection that “government help” = from our hard earned taxes.
They still think money grows on trees (or printed – because we don’t have enough trees).
Simple. Once again, they disguise what is actually a benefit for friends as benefits for the people.
Instead of holding contractors liable for their actions, we make tax payers responsible. Instead of enforcing and making contractors abide to a higher standard, we let them continue to produce substandard and dangerous quality products that the tax payer spends their entire lives paying for.
Makes sense, no? Partit tal-Haddiem. Morru capcpu u ilbsu l-ahmar, naghag.
Amateur politicians are only able to deal with symptoms. They neither have the willingness or the balls to deal with the root cause. Stop voting PL/PN if you want to set real change.
