I hope the DPP takes action against the security guard(s) involved.
When it comes to an event like this – what’s actually happening?
Like in BJJ any blood chokes, even when held for too long, are rarely fatal.
Is the issue that the hold is being applied incorrectly, for too long, something else?
…I ask while also acknowledging the hold should NOT be applied anyway.
There was absolutely no need for 6 plus people to hold him down. There really wasn’t. Despite his actions, this was extreme. It’s no wonder he wasn’t able to breathe.
I hope the justice for this is quicker than the family of the Cork lad who was killed in similar circumstances 25 years ago
Clearly there’s something wrong with training and licencing if security guards feel like they’re entitled to hold someone down on the ground outside of the premises which they’re guarding.
I appreciate there are times when someone might not be content to just walk away, or the security feels a citizens’ arrest is warranted. But in those cases they should be authorised to use zip tie cuffs to hold the person instead of pinning them down and assaulting them.

There really needs to be better training and regulation of security guards. This is crazy.
A tragedy
Some timing
Throw the book at the bouncer. Far too many testosterone and steroid fueled man babies playing cos cosplay. Once a patron have been evicted from a premises they need to be held accountable by the law if they put hands on anybody.
In the relatively controlled environment of a psych unit, where all staff are specifically trained in safe practices, prone restraint is seen as so dangerous that the MHC insists it is “only permitted in the most exceptional of circumstances by staff who have received appropriate and specific training in its safe use” and the records have to clearly indicate that it was used and why.
In the chaotic setting of random fundamentally untrained security staff dealing with random members of the public it just should never happen.
Wonder how many people didn’t read the article…
Why are security gaurds/bouncers so poorly trained? Ive seen a fella well over 100kg chin a small woman outside penneys, have had bouncers and shop security threaten myself/customers/employees in a variety of situations, lads showing liveleak execution and torture videos to staff, racist abuse. This is from retail to hospitallity to fast food.
Quite clearly something very wrong with the training and licensing. These lads are supposed to be able to restrain without killing people. If they can’t do that they’re in the wrong job
Mandatory viewing of Roadhouse should be required for all security staff.
Far too many cowboy bouncers who are clearly in the job to start fights and hurt people especially around city centre pubs
Imagine strangling someone to death for some nameless faceless capitalist overlord who couldn’t even be arsed finding out if you went to jail for it or not.
