Traffic nuts but the boardwalk is excellent for cycling/running/walking so that is the way forward for Dublin beaches/coastal villages

Sunday train service is a joke. Irish rail living in the past

Going to howth on a day like today seems so stressful and I doubt I’d get an ounce of enjoyment from it. Maybe it’s my slight autism but how does tonnes of queues and crowds in stifling heat appeal to anyone?

That’s not just the beach though, it’s a big maritime festival in Howth.

I joined the end of that queue, and in 10 – 15 minutes I was on a Dart. If I’d driven it would have taken an hour to get from Howth to Sutton.

Edit: To be fair to them they didn’t charge anyone for journeys, they just told everyone to get straight on. That saved a lot of time

I expected it to be longer when I saw the thread title.

Darts are ridiculously big and will fit most of those in the queue

Dublin is such an embarrassment as a capital city for such an amazing country.

You couldn’t have lured me out there even with the promise of magic beans that grew a money tree.

Do they think the wait would be less or more enjoyable sitting in the traffic if all those people were driving cars?

    9. OutInABlazeOfGlory on

      “Get public transport they say…”

They say like a car would be any better. Then you can sit in traffic for thirty minutes, put wear and tear on the engine, and idle and burn fuel you bought with money you could’ve spent elsewhere.

Be mad at the government not funding rail.

I was there. It wasnt that bad. Once the train came the qs moved fairly quickly. It just looked longer because they were keeping people out of station

Americans will see this and say some shit like this is why the USA is more free, we all have cars!

I was in that queue today. It was grand. The train took the whole queue. Also it was free.

What isn’t mentioned here is that there was a festival on in Howth today, and the train from Howth was free of charge.

    14. CliffDagger on

Wait, isn’t there a big maritime festival in Howth today?

Was there yesterday. The line was long but moved really fast.

The irish rail staff moved the qeue on in waves into the station and had a separated line for buggies, wheelchairs elderly etc.

They organised it and controlled the crowds really well.

They had the gates open and told everyone not to tag on or off, so the trip back to town was even free.

Fingal co council done a really great job with the festival too.

Was really impressed with how well it went with a way bigger crowd than they probably expected.

If all these people drove it would be even more of a shit show

Bray Airshow looks like this every year and that queue moves quick once there is a train

    18. throwaway_3508 on

Trains every 30 minutes and they are still complaining?

Wait until they see what train frequency is in the rest of the country..
Wexford line only has 3 services on a Sunday lol

Wait for the next bank holiday where it will all be shut down.

This is rage bait. I’m just back from there. It was very well organised, we were no more then 10 minutes in this queue. They were just holding people outside the station until the DART came and then it was like go, go, go, keep moving, as they loaded the entire queue onto the DART.
