[CNN reports – ](https://www.yahoo.com/news/weather-news/articles/mind-bogglingly-crazy-europes-deadly-early-heatwave-is-smashing-records-151825680.html?ncid=redditnewsus) Temperature records are being smashed across Europe as parts of the continent swelter in a heat wave that is bringing extreme temperatures alarmingly early in the year.

The continent is grappling with a powerful heat dome, a persistent high-pressure system which acts like a lid on a pot, trapping hot air and pushing it downward. It can remain in place for days or even weeks and is a weather phenomenon made more likely and more intense by human-caused climate change.

    2. I’m literally in “existing”-mode. Sleeping a few hours during the day so I can be awake at night, because that’s the only way I can do SOME things. Otherwise, my head is just in a state of lethargy and confusion. As someone who’s morbidly overweight, this is hell. Forecast says it’ll be 30°C til at least Sunday, so right now I’m hoping for Monday … and it’s only Wednseday …

Really sick of climate change deniers.

The media keeps calling it an “unprecedented record-smashing heatwave” every single year now. at what point do we just accept that this is the new normal and our entire infrastructure is completely unequipped to handle it.

Oh no, if only we were warned about the effects of the constant burning of fossil fuels….. Anyway…. Moving on.

Don’t forget to complain about “all the money we waste on green bullshit” on winter before you complain about the high temperatures on summer.

And this is just the beginning unless we get really really serious

    6. YoshiTheFluffer on

Its crazy how fast the temperature changes. We had rains and 10-15C for a week here in romania and now instant 30C.

    7. Schkrasss on

So far I actually don’t think this is particulary bad? Yes, it’s too early in the year and I would prefer temperatures never going over 25° in general but this so far is very manageable…

But I really worry about July and August… The actual hot months.

    8. Beyllionaire on

Next summer I’m definitely getting AC.

Heat waves are getting too serious to not get one.

    9. Headline only possible by being willfuly oblivious of all the climate projections, research, and scientist warnings.

    10. No_Win7658 on

And still the science deniers claim climate change is not real

cue to all climate change deniers saying “it’s a natural process

And El Niño hasn’t started yet. We will see worse this summer. Much worse. It will be dangerous, yet travel companies make their commercials as always and we’re all going down south to enjoy the sun and the warmth in our lovely holiday time. It’s gonna be lovely and hot. Burning hot.

    14. Guys I know it’s tough and that once the heat is inside the house it’s a pain to get it out again, but some tips if some of you are not aware:

      – Don’t ever EVER open any window during daytime. 80%/90% closed shutters must be the only light source during the day.

      – edit: absolutely of paramount importance: put external shutters. Try anything to have the light blocked outside your house. Because direct sun on them will generate heat like hell. Even a dark drape stuck by a window pane outside is better than an inside curtain.

      – now, about the day: it begins BEFORE sunrise, when air is still “cool” compared to the house’s. It ends AFTER there is 2/3 degrees lees outside than inside. So daytime unfortunately is much longer than not daytime, and is not linked to sunrise/sunset.

      – during not day time, open everything, favorise air flows, smash your fan 1 to 2 meters from the window and facing it to help hot air to exit during the night.

      – Rince and repeat, never falter and never open anything during day time. If the heat is in the house it.will be long and hard to make it better but it will finally happen.

Applying these counsels BEFORE beginning of heatwaves ensures a cooler home temperature. Today, living in Paris (which is absolutely not designed to keep cool), I manage 24 degrees while it’s 34 outside without AC. Even if your home is shitty designed, applying this will enable you to limitate the damages.

      Hope it helps.

Yeah I’m in Switzerland, and a week and a half ago it was snowing, now 30°C

    16. Fusifufu on

Shame there exists no technology that can cool down human habitats. Maybe one that would even have perfect synergy with energy surpluses from solar during the middle of the day? Oh well, perhaps some day they’ll invent it and widely deploy it in the Asian nations such that we can learn from them how to deal with heat. Surely then we’d just copy their approach and simply solve the heat issue?

Enjoying the rain against my windows here in Finland, sounds like hail tbh

I love that no government cares bout that. They all sit in their air conditioning and try to hide their pedophiles instead.

    19. GlitteringAd21 on

Our ”leaders” greed and stupidity have led us here.

    20. Still enjoying the currently 15 degrees here in Denmark and the other days around 20-22 degrees. I can see that will cause a lot of tourism in the future alone for the weather if this keeps up.

    21. jelly_wishes on

40°C where I’m from, that’s normal in the middle of the summer but not right now

    22. Mushcube on

This is the new normal. And just the beginning of it. Our children will live in MadMax type of wastelands 🫡

    23. “Crazy, insane heatwave! Never seen before! Nobody could have seen it coming! How could we possibly have prepared?” – Europe, every single year

This is why I don’t understand how people keep having children.
