They already are? I’m in my 30s and I still need someone to approve my purchase for energy drinks in Tesco.

Still dont get this. I used to drink costa coffee when I was under 16 with my friends rather than enervy drinks. There’s up to 325mg in that. I dont disagree with it. Just asking how are energy drinks worse?
I know this is anecdotal, but had a mate who only drank Monster energy drinks ( or red bullwith vodka on a night out) exclusively for years, no water, tea, coffee, juice, anything but Monster. By 20 he had 7 kidney stones, constant insomnia, anxiety and head aches. I blamed the lack of water but he wasnt having it.
I remember when i was a teacher and this was a drink option in the canteen! I had to give up a free to take a kid out of a year 10 class to sit with them as they were shaking uncontrollably and has gone super pale.
I legit think giving the kids a cigarette or a pint would be less dangerous. Insanity

This is madness. I’m 50, and have to do age check every time I buy a red bull.
Yet the same supermarket (Sainsbury’s) will cheerfully let me buy a bottle of bleach and one of those strong coffee in a can things on self checkout without hesitation.
At least they flag paracetamol and booze, and vapes/cigs are behind the counter.
Are we just going to end up banning everything that might appeal to children? Coffee has far more caffeine in it. And the iced coffee you get in supermarkets has just as much as an energy drink.
Good, leave the energy for us older folks that need it.
Damned kids stealing all our energy
At our nursery parents were caught giving their children energy drinks, things like gym pre workout. What they wanted was them to crash so they’d come home and sleep.
Some wanted their kids bouncing so they could say they have adhd or autism.
I know because some of the gossipy mums told me what was happening.
It really surprises me how more shops haven’t been doing this since I often see under 16s drinking them.

I get ID’ed all the time for Monster despite very much looking older thank 16, even if 25 is debatable.
About 5 years too late. YouTube twats have already rinsed the kids they targetted.
My main issue is from what I can gather theres no law change for proxy sales, which makes it a complete pain in the ass for any retail workers, all they state is “you shouldnt allow it” which is not helpful.
So you age refuse a kid, they go get mummy/daddy out of the car to buy it for them and the retail worker gets an earfull of “this is my kid i decide blah blah in future you sell them it blah blah” crap.
If they wish to give retailers the suggestion to block proxy sales, they should be making it illegal to proxy buy for someone too.
I hope that theres a proper campaign to inform the public about the rules and how to easily obtain ID to buy it.
I frequent in a Red Bull every now and then, but to be honest they’re dire in terms the ingredients, and it’s very easy to mess yourself up on caffeine addiction with them.
I think there should be regulation on can size, and flavours.
Very easy to neck two 500ml cans of Monster back to back, a bit harder to drink two 500ml servings of black coffee at the same pace.
I got addicted to caffeine, the withdrawals felt awful, two weeks cold turkey sorted me out (I think), the first week felt like I had the flu, now I’m very conscious of my caffeine intake.
I mean I thought it was already a thing but yeah under 16s shouldn’t be drinking that stuff.

This has not been the law for “years”. Shops banning children from buying energy drinks has been voluntary this whole time. This is news because it’s actually being put into law. There you go.

They’re removing them from all vending machines, does this include ones in places where kids aren’t allowed? My workplace doesn’t have any kids around so are this machines caught in the crossfire?

We’re desperate to solve the student being worse and worse problem by banning social media, energy drinks etc but it seems we’re floundering to do everything but point at the actual problem, the parents. christ.
