BBC pre-match VT featuring interviews with select Argentinians was all about how it’s just football, no politics lol. It’s political if you win it seems

    2. No_Story5313 on

Lol let them wave their bedsheet that looks like it was crawled on by a 10 year old. Leave it and move on from the rage baiting.

Football and Falkland sabre rattling. It’s all they ever have to distract from the country being in a perpetual economic mess.

    3. Meowing-To-The-Stars on

Every player that held the sign or publicly endorsed it should be suspended. They were fined in the past for that and that clearly didn’t work.

    4. Luckierexpert on

Argentina is getting sanctioned by FIFA for this, they deserve it.

    5. jamesbeil on

FIFA won’t do a thing. They love their golden boy. Political messages endorsing a war that killed nearly a thousand people are fine if you’re Argentinian.

      Yes, I am bitter.

    6. 0ttoChriek on

What’s to probe? They clearly showed the banner and FIFA punishes political statements. Punish them with a fine or suspensions after the tournament and be done with it. Not a chance in hell FIFA takes action before the final, and no one should expect it.

    7. Redcoat-Mic on

We had a nice montage before the match from Argentina supporters saying the war is nothing do with the match and forget it.

Those players should be suspended. A paltry fine to a national football association or millionaire players means nothing, it’s just a fee to break the rules.

Stop them playing in the final and see if they do it again.

    8. Zoomer_Boomer2003 on

While we’re at it, punish the SNP who support Argentina

    9. Kind of obvious that a fine is just a fee to advertise your political statement at the world cup.

    10. MrMonkeyman79 on

Best thing we can do is point and laugh.

Even having performed a thrilling last minute come back and secured their place in the second consecutive World Cup final, it seems a 40 year military humiliation has caused such a deep wound that they cant help but pick at the scab at a time they should be celebrating.

They have signs, good for them but we have a navy.

    11. MrboboCatman on

Shits getting real, fifa HAS to act, what will they do?

    12. N3KR0VULPES on

Ahh fuck, I knew betting the Falklands on a football match was a mistake.

    13. Ok-Middle8656 on

Messi was there, standing next to the banner laughing and grinning. I’d love it if he got a 1-match suspension LOL

    14. OhMy-Really on

Doubt nothing meaningful will happen, just boycott FIFA. Even that will have zero effect

    15. evil_bugi on

They can have their win, their massive inflation and shit country that 99% of people are trying to escape.

      We will keep the Falklands.

    16. Ok-Middle8656 on

Looking forward to the Spanish in the final with a banner saying Gibraltar belongs to Spain!

    17. Educational_Bar6893 on

Caw, the Argentines love waving a white flag don’t they

    18. HopefulSpinach7468 on

Russia claims on Crimea go back to 1700’s. Maybe we should let them have that too

    19. CrabPurple7224 on

What is Argentinas obsession with our land?
They got a piece of land already that’s a shithole; fix that place instead.

    20. Intelligent-Royal682 on

I don’t really care what FIFA does to be honest they are probably the most corrupt organisation on the planet.

What I would like to see is all of the players who joined in on this to be barred from our national leagues. I don’t want people who support imperialist actions against our sovereign territory and disrespect the service men who died defending those lands playing football in my country. And yes I’m a Liverpool fan and that includes Alexis Mac Allister if he was involved.

    21. Call Trump to contact FIFA and get Argentina kicked out and England reinstated.

    22. Calm_Usual2201 on

The irony of 6 of their national team players currently playing in the premier league and therefore contributing millions £££ in taxes to the UK which includes British defence of the Falklands…

    23. Jeffuk88 on

Any players who held that banner and play in the UK should have their visas suspended… only die hard club fans would be mad about it

    24. Dismal_Foundation_23 on

FIFA won’t do crap, they are absurdly corrupt and they have been desperate for Messi to be in the final.

Could see the FA or even their own clubs do something to those players that play in the UK though. Should get a huge fine that is payable to the UK veterans charities and decent bans from football, like 5 games.

    25. JoeyJoeC on

I thought it was about football but clearly they’re still salty about our Falkland Islands.

    26. AantonChigurh on

Multiple premier league players took part. We don’t have to rely on FIFA to do something (they won’t). FA suspend them, clubs suspend them. Fans boo them every time they touch the ball next season at the very least.

    27. AdrianFish on

So many of these players ply their trade in England btw it’s honestly embarrassing

    28. cococream on

Political banner. Imagine if that was a pro Palestine flag. They’d have shut the entire tournament down.

    29. Improper_Usage on

FA could always ban Argentinian players from playing a few premiere league games. See how they like that.

    30. butchbadger on

The obvious solution is to deduct 2 goals from their last game and update the standings.

    31. alge_anon on

We patiently wait for FIFA to do absolutely nothing. Little statement after the final perhaps.

    32. Due-Access-996 on

Fly whatever flag you want, there’s only one flag flying over the Falklands right now.

    33. Other-Barry-1 on

I thought political statements are not be made at FIFA games?

    34. No-Tomatillo3698 on

What is there to probe? The photos are clear. Players even made their statements. Just punish them.

    35. uberprodude on

Who are we kidding? England will be punished for daring to speak ill of Infantino’s beloved Argentina.

    36. Objective_Ticket on

Why doesn’t this happen in rugby? Is it purely that the Argentine rugby players are better people?
Maybe this weekend will bring some extra needle now I’ve said that…

    37. stowgood on

Kick them out I say. I’m sure England would gladly take their spot if FIFA asked nicely.

    38. kelleehh on

France and England could do the funniest thing when they play. Imagine lots of goals being scored so messi can’t get the record 😂

    39. penciltrash on

The only country in the world to win a game and still be the losers

    40. PomPomBumblebee on

It’s laughable to think FIFA will do anything about this despite saying it’s against the rules to be political

    41. If they get a small fine, which we all know they will!

Then that just means next time, we face them, we walk out with “Falklands are British” tops on
