Nowadays people that don’t create well paying jobs for locals (directly and relatively rapidly) shouldn’t be allowed to migrate.

In an interview on Algerian television, the French ambassador to Algeria announces that France wishes to issue 250,000 visas per year to Algerian nationals

That’s a lot of people a year, is France going the way of Spain? Someone needs to pay for those pensions I guess

People forget that Algerian needs a visa to visit relatives living in France. Visa doesn’t equate to immigrants.

We are mostly privileged here to be able to travel without one

Over 1.5 million Algerians died for independence just for their descendants to fight tooth and nail to move to France. Feels kind of ironic.

I’ll be checking some charts in a couple of years to see if this works like in Spain.

“Stéphane Romatet made the comments in an interview published July 14, 2026, roughly two months after returning to Algiers. He described the plan as part of an Élysée Palace effort to re-engage Algeria through “trust and concrete acts.”

Does the Algerian government like when its citizens migrate to France? Are they not concerned about brain drain?

I’m starting to understand how people get addicted to red pill lmao

    9. They should not be a single visa issued as long as Christophe Gleizes is not released and safely back in France with Algerian governement public apologies.

So Algeria fought a bloody war to become independent from France…but why do so many want to go there?

It seems insane that France straight up betrayed the Algerians who helped them (the Harkis) yet allows in many that actively fought against them or who despise their country. They did not allow the Pied Noir’s to keep their lands and assets, so why should they be afforded so many visas? If they put this proposal to a public vote it would be instantly rejected

Yeah, and send back to Ukraine people fleeing from war. Very nice.

French here. Let me just say that I think you folks are going a bit too fast qualifying this as if the Macron government just decided overnight to become an immigration haven (it’s not).

This number reflects what the flow was before the diplomatic clash between Paris and Algier. It includes people visiting their relatives, students, spouse relocation, you name it but in short it’s both temporary and long term immigration.

History explains why this flow is so high, Algeria used to be much more than a colony for France, it was considered an integral part of the nation. While Muslims were ostracized, they were also sent to the mainland for work, incorporated in the army, and so on, creating ties that required special status after independence.

The resumption of visa processing is to be expected if the relations between the two countries were to be normalized at some point. Part of that normalization also includes Algeria resuming to take back their citizen who are under an order to be expelled.

I am not even for mass migration, but people are incredibly delusional if they think our economies, pensions etc will be able to survive without it.

That’s just the truth, and the reason why no government right or left is actually doing anything to curb it.

Even uneducated low income people bring more than a native born in purely economic terms since it’s instantaneous and the raising and education costs are taken elsewhere… now culturally, spiritually, ehem racially, ethnically whatever, it’s another story.

Some would argue that not everything should turn around money

does anyone read the article before commenting? it was the average number of all kinds (including tourism) visas per annum before the souring of diplomatic relations between France and Algeria.

I’ve been getting the feeling for a few years now that this is the fast track to implement an autocracy all around Europe.

Stop spreading misinformation, these are yearly work permits. They have to reapply at the end of the year and have to leave if they don’t get approved.

These aren’t for illegal immigrants, they are for cheap labor that will be rejected after their 3rd year so they cannot qualify for residency.

What’s the thinking here? Paris doesn’t riot enough after football games, lets step it up

From an outsider looking in. Wasn’t Algeria part of France for many years? Even if they hate France, it’s kind of obvious why they want to settle there. Family, language, history etc.
