I’m really not sold on it tbh. I feel like the only reason parties want to do that is because they get some data, that that younger group will give them more votes, not because of any actual reason or giving younger people more agency.

If 16 year old under the law is not old enough and decisions for that person are made by parents, I don’t think they should vote.

Honestly, if 90-100 years old people have a right to vote, than 16 years old should be allowed too.

    3. MelonEuskA on

Bad call, 16 year olds are generally much more emotionally volatile than 18 year olds which makes them more likely to cast a vote on a whim

Good move, but the key reform is fixing the voting system, because the current one is broken.

Good idea, it’s been working in Scotland it can work in Hungary, the younger generation can often be far more informed than the older who often have fixed voting for parties and don’t research the others

I’m a dude but maybe just let the 16 year old women vote, you probably don’t want to let the Andrew Tate and Clavicular fanclub vote.

I appreciate what Magyar is trying to do but this isn’t the way to go about it.

      This…isn’t a good idea ngl.

Yes, 16 year olds can be politically conscious but they also have some of the worst takes imaginable because they are in the process of forming their full understanding. For reference when I was 16 I though LGBTQ+ was basically like neurodivergence where people can go fix with medication and therefore homophobia was like ableism…as you can tell this wasn’t even some edgelord-wannabe take I literally didn’t know about this subject properly and this is the most softball examples on 16 year olds having bad ideas, we had the high school swarming with Nazis and tankies.

Honestly, I would raise it to 21, and limit it 21-60 years old.

The idea is good but make sure before what does Tiktok generation vote for. I believe Poland found out that ages under 30 were heavily pro right and Russian friendly parties – Tiktok and China is pushing heavily pro russia algorhitms.

Good, young people should decide their own countrys future, rather than people in their 80s.

    12. DaZMan44 on

I’m not crazy about this idea. I’m actually of the idea the voting age should be increased. Voting should be 21-60/65, IMO.

    13. Europefirstbb on

Lower it to zero, parents with kids should have more vote. Without kids, no more country

    14. EpicStan123 on

To be fair I think this makes sense. 16 year old can work and pay taxes. I think the minimal voting age should be synced with the minimal legal working age. One thing I like about the American ideas is the “no taxes without representation”

    15. RobertSpringer on

People act as if this is a radical idea and not something that’s been in place in neighbouring Austria for 2 decades

    16. What is the minimum working age in Hungary?. I feel if you’re old enough to work and pay taxes you should have a vote

    17. SilverDetail2713 on

I don’t think it makes much of a difference. Most of them won’t even bother to vote because politics is not among their interests.

I propose something else: give more weight to votes from highly educated citizens…

    18. If you’re old enough to have sex, then you’re old enough to vote. IMO

    19. Front_Help_310 on

      worst idea ever…

should be raised to 24 years and revoked at 70

    20. I’m all for this because the electorate is becoming increasingly geriatric and this helps offset that. European governments pander far too much to home owning pensioners and it’s killing us.

    21. Nazamroth on

When I was 16, I had all sorts of bright ideas on how a government should be run. Looking back, I’m not sure I should be allowed to vote based on them…

Not that 198 year olds are much better, but still.

    22. I know that young people will be most impacted by any elections but if anything – it should be raised. Young people are naive and are leaning towards far right populism.

    23. ConvictedHobo on

      Proposed is a strong word

He expressed interest in a Facebook post

And people promptly said it’s a bad idea

    24. F**k this arbitraty age thing. Just give everyone a vote?!

People looking for reasons to limit voting or restrict this right from certain age groups are just principally, pathetically undemocratic.

    25. GuldursTV90 on

He would do more for the future of the country if he took away the vote from pensioners.

    26. mariusherea on

You’re too young to drive a car. You’re too young to get married and have kids. You’re too young to drink or smoke or even look at porn. Here, we trust you with deciding the future of this country.

    27. roachRancher on

In national elections, those who would be subject to conscription at 18 during wartime should be allowed to vote, provided they would turn 18 during the elected official’s term.
