According to information from Eurostat, the birth rates in the EU fell from 10.1 births per 1,000 people in 2002 to 7.7 in 2025. Countries such as Spain, Italy, and Greece experienced particularly steep declines in birth rates. Although the population is currently continuing to increase due to immigration, the low number of births means that there will be fewer workers in the future and a much larger number of retirees. This will place increasing pressure on pension systems and healthcare services. Therefore, declining birth rates represent a major long-term challenge for Europe.

Yeah, just because our systems are built for infinite growth, doesn’t mean they’re right.
And every time in this kind of news no one analyze why his happen and why the numbers are worse in “particular” countries like Greece, Spain and Italy.
Stagnant wages, production moved abroad, steadily rising inflation.
It’s slowly coming to people actually having to consider polygamy to afford the per household living costs.
It’s not about people being less willing, it’s actually quite a struggle these days to afford being a parent.
Cheap workers from abroad will definitely solve this problem right?
Maybe it’s because having children isn’t nearly as much fun as it’s claimed to be, why go through this pain to bring kids into a messed up world? Just because some boomers are worried there won’t be anyone to keep the economy going throughout their retirement?
Previous generations could manage an entire family off of a single job – it didn’t even have to be a highly educated position. They could buy a house and afford to have kids.
With exponential housing prices, overall rising costs and stagnant wages it is impossible for anyone below the upper class to afford a home and to sustain a family of several children without both parents being employed.
We are ignoring every facet of the *why.*
Don’t worry. We will just fill the gap with mass unchecked immigration.

I would like to have children but I also know that they would have short, miserable lives growing up in constant warfare and 50C summers. Show me proof otherwise and I would consider it, until I see signs the world is getting better not rapidly worse my uterus is closed for business.

Birth rates started to fall in around ~2013-2014. Pretty stable from 2002 to early 10’s.
I have an alright job, slightly above median income, and I don’t even see how I could ever afford a single kid and have a chance at ever owning a house, so no thank you. I’m just gonna enjoy life instead
Well maybe doing something about the insane housing market would help ? But who am I to say that, just a young person who wants to be a dad but is afraid of not having the means to provide my kids with a decent life…

If I were to have children, they’d be cooked, metaphorically and quite literally.
I am not interested in breeding a new generation of modern day techno villeins for billionaires. I’m not interested in watching my children get crushed by manufactured loneliness. Not that I’d get to watch them much anyway, considering I’d need 2 jobs to be able to afford one child. They’d have no legacy, no inheritance, no active grandparents, no opportunity to play and enjoy life.
My apartment is 32 degrees Celsius and I know it will just get worse. The people that are supposed to fight for my interests have told me for the last 30 years that I don’t matter, that all that matters is that some rich waste of air gets to wank in their underground mega bunker.
And the worst part is, these same people are telling me to pop out babies, so that when I’m old, they can work in horrible conditions with no change to take care of my infirm ass and end up hating what I represent like we hate boomers. All they care about is the cycle of labour in a world that they are actively killing.

Turns out that when the billionaires and politicians make living unaffordable, people stop having kids. Who knew?
I’ve seen the culprit first hand, I’m not against women working or getting an education but this is exactly what happens when most do. Having a kid in their twenties is not something that crosses their minds, same goes for men.
Notice how men and women in their twenties will still go by “guys” and “girls”? Might seem like nothing but it’s a direct reflection of how the newer generations don’t want to accept the baggage that comes with their roles, the roles that make sure our species is actually capable of doing the one thing we need to survive, reproduce and raise offspring.
