The council just do not give a fuck.
Reality is that anyone who owns a property that they allow to go derelict like this should be suspended from the top of it as a warning.
There is a sign I think on that building advertising the old shop opening hours: Mon-Sun 7am-10pm
It’s a real throw back to a family run business I’d say. That wouldn’t be possible now with staff costs, rates, utilities etc. it would cost a fortune to renovate it to modern building standards aswell. It’s a small site, you can see why it has been left to get into that state. So many of these old shop type buildings up and down the country, something will have to be done with them- possibly time to consider knocking them down and building modern homes/apartments on them?
There was a good bit of graffiti on this shop.
The panelling was black and wording is Gold. Someone got gold spray paint and crossed out letters while adding new ones in to turn Selection into Dereliction.
Just when you think councils cant make you eye roll anymore they descend into new levels of either incompetence or deference
The reality is that many people up and down the country live in street houses that can be 150 years old or more. They are mostly pensioners who have reared their families there and don’t have the money to do these places up. Their homes are not national monuments that have to be lovingly restored to bring them up to great home Revival standards. Where would a pensioner get the money for retrofitting? They can just about afford to heat them. They have no choice but to live in their homes which happen to be very old houses on the public streets. It’s easy to see what becomes of these homes when they are eventually sold to a developer.

This was very much a working shop up to about ten years ago – someone can correct me on that but it was definitely operation-able when I moved into the area 12 years ago. I walk past it every day, It’s been left to rot. The floor ripped up. No proper protection from the elements with broken windows. Someone is waiting for a developer to take it off their hands at a hefty price.
That’s right across from where the new Metro station will be. The owner knows well there is no point in selling it now when they will get a lot more for it when the Metro is launched in the year 20never.
Apologies for the tangent but I really thought the author of the article, Jack White, was wearing a beret.
Need to get rid of or significantly reduce the powers of council Chief executives …Councils answer to no one , certainly not councillors …Hence no accountability …..
