I hope Iceland votes in favour of restarting the talks, as if we see any possibility of the EU giving Iceland exceptions with regards to the common fisheries policy, it might start some more serious talks about Breturn as it will signal that the EU is able to compromise instead of just forcing through demands unacceptable to the country in question.
Hardly a surprising comment from the French seeing as they and other EU fleets will come fish Icelandic waters as soon as they’re open. The EU doesn’t need the Icelandic market, they do want their resources.

I am curious, would the EU ever end “collective” fishing rights in general?
Fishing is a large component of their economy and a major source of foreign currency.

Everyone talks about fishes, while the real reason we need Iceland (and Norway) in the EU lies elsewhere. Up north. Where the future of oceanic trade is about to happen
ofc frenchies would say this. french fishermen can’t wait to plunder those fishing areas to dry them out. same reason french will not accept uk back.
My understanding is that their only two major sticking points are issues involving fishing and maintaining control of their monetary policy.
