14 weeks maternity sounds ridiculously short to me. So six months is an improvement I guess.
Genuinly interested: What do you do with the baby when you go back to work? As that little baby is not eating or sleeping regularly yet
Switzerland is “horrible” if you are a new parent. The state does very little to help you and encourage new births
there was an interesting discussion about it in the Swiss sub https://old.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/1u12uul/the_math_of_raising_two_young_kids_on_good/
That not a lot. My country(Romania) is much better than this.
Women get 126 days medical leave, a minimum of 42 days after birth, the rest before birth, with a maximum of 63 days after birth.
Then they get up to 24 months or 36 months for a child with disabilities. And they get paid 85% of their wage, up to a certain maximum value, while their job position is reserved.
But unfortunately this doesn’t help the birth rates.
This won’t work… the Swiss are notoriously, ironically, anti-family. They’ll argue “this’ll cripple our economy when all the mothers go on maternity together” or something and the country will just accept that
Absolutely should.
the ideal is something like nordic systems where fathers also have quite a lot of paid leave, so that child-rearing is not only seen as the mother’s task, which is important when it comes to how female employees are viewed in comparison to male colleagues in workplace.
6 month is reamly good but let’s not forget about the fathers/parteners as well raising a child is a usually a two parents job and any adult involved in raising a children should get some rest a least for a while. 😊 if we want more equality it’s how you reach it bu making the father as important as the mothers, of it will be a cheap excuse for dads to not work as much …
