Pretty good change. But how will this effect busses and their companies? Will this be sustainable long term?
Edit: won’t diverting climate finance be a bad idea? Considering how worse the tempeture during summer is getting?

£400 million of that will come from switching investment in international climate finance to loans, the government says. The rest will come from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero budget. Source – bbc news

So assuming this means prices are coming back down thats handy as I just cancelled my monthly pass due to it going from £90 per month to £120

Meanwhile in falkirk a bus from town up the road which takes 5 mins is £3.70 what a joke
Who does this benefit though? Working class commuting for their employment would pay weekly/monthly rather than single fare?
If those continue to raise you aren’t really offering an advantage to regular bus users?
A good move. Bus fares in London are £1.75 but in Sheffield £2.60, despite average earnings being much lower. Should be more even across the country. Was also shocked to get a bus from Berwick into Eyemouth and pay almost £10 for a return (20 minute ride).
I wish this would cover school busses too. It’s mad how much they cost. I hate the fact I have to clog up the roads driving my kids to school because it’s so much cheaper than them getting the offical school bus. £2 a day would be great, but even £2 each way would be a big improvement. Although at £4 a day it’s probably not worth it for two or more kids even then.
They also just announced that they’re letting the US use our bases again so expect everything else to go up in price AGAIN. If we’d stop helping people bomb the middle east we might not have an immigration and inflation problem.
I could get the bus into town for £1, I moved 2 stops down the road to the next village and it’s now £2.50!into town. If I want to get the bus between villages it’s still £2.50.
As much as it sounds good the sudden London can charge over £5 but its neighbours can only charge £2 seems a bit short sighted as costs around London have these days are almost as much (land for depots wages etc) I know that it’s a good thing for consumers but it will need to be looked at on the financial stability side

He isn’t capping weekly bus fares, which stands at a whopping £950 a year.
It’s not a hell of a lot less than what you can run a car for.
Insurance sub £400, tax around £30, petrol costs sub £200. Maintenance and running costs likely push it over a grand.
But with my weekly bus fare going up a few times last year and set to go up again next year, it won’t be long before it breaks a grand and I may as well get a car, by that point…
It’s good but I’d like to see the VAT petition that’s been going on for the cafe, pub and restaurant industry implemented but also for all small businesses before it’s too late for even more.

I reckon we might as well go the full hog to £0, I’d use buses more if they were literally free, feel like everyone would and it would solve a lot of problems and I’m guessing only come at a cost of 900 million or so?
Like surely the quantity of people which choose to use buses instead of alternatives increases far more going from 2 to 0 than from 3 to 2? More people on buses is more good right? Saves money on road maintenance long term, better for air quality, helps towards emissions targets, and if it causes people to generally travel more is good for the economy?
While I’m not sure that rolling back on climate stuff to pay for this is a good idea, I think thr policy itself is a very good one.
The thing is this, apart from the much needed savings, climate change is accelorating.
Indeed, this summer, here in the UK, we’ve seen record after record tumble.
Here, there is an *insane* situation where for 2 or more people, to go to town and back, they may as well use a taxi instead.
Cost of bus (day ticket the cheapest option) £7.30 per person.
Cost of taxi both ways £15
So, 2 people, same price, give or take a few pence.
3 or 4 people – cheaper by taxi.
Please remember people that he’s in his building his profile stage of his leadership. It’s always positive and seemingly they’re cutting everything at the beginning by announcing all of these cost cutting measures.
But everything has a cost.
They will recoup the money later in a different way.
It is going to cost me £750 to go to work on a 1h30m train journey…. Robbery.
The current price of bus fares is weird because an uber is only slightly more expensive but way faster and more convenient
Bus fare in my area is 2.80 ~ 3.00 for a single so I’m pretty happy about this. Encouraging bus usage in general is good, getting more cars off the road and making it more accessible for those who’ve been struggling money wise. Honestly hoping for more focus on boosting all types of public transport going forward; if it’s more convenient and/or cheaper than driving, it’ll get more cars off the road.
