      > The European Commission is currently finalising negotiations with the Trump administration to conclude an “Enhanced Border Security Partnership” (EBSP) Framework Agreement allowing border control authorities to screen travellers against biometric databases and profile them for security concerns. The leaked draft text suggests that the Commission significantly caved in to US’s excessive demands for unfettered information access, exacerbating travel surveillance and putting our fundamental rights at risk.

Especially for those of you already thinking “easy, just don’t go there”, it’s important to note that it **remains unclear if under this new agreement the US gets access to biometric data of people not trying to enter the country**. This is because, if unrestricted access is provided, and if names and dates of birth or even other forms of ID are known, the US would still have access to our data.

In this regard, what can we as EU citizens do to prevent this from moving forward? I saw a [petition](https://www.europarl.europa.eu/petitions/en/petition/content/html?petitionNumber=0068%252F2026) on the European Parlamant website on this exact matter. Would this be the best way forward?

So is up to this point when you go through a CBP border official and they take photos and scan your prints – is it not biometrically used to reference an existing dataset?

    3. 52-61-64-75 on

what does this mean, when you enter the US they take your photo, fingerprints and retina scan anyway, thats more info than the EU has on me lmao

I would only travel to the US if my job requires it. You guys can keep it for yourself, USA#1 nothing to look at in the rest of the world. Your poverty is only because of migrants. Nothing to do with the billionaires or trillionairs there *fake eagle sound from a Falcon*

Further work for the European Parliament to vote against the umpteenth bad deal from the European Commission.

    6. Mr_strelac on

what is the point of the commission anyway?

to be a gathering of unelected politicians who can do whatever they want?

europe needs serious reorganization. and politicians like vdl have no business in it.

it seems to me that the eu is increasingly moving away from democracy, and with nonsense like chat control, from the values by which it was originally created.

Who gives a fuck about visa free travel to the US of Ass? This better get shot down.

    8. thefunkybassist on

Knowing that US leadership is akin to a rogue state, why would they not just plug this into Palantir right away..

    9. My god. The EU is destroying their credits pretty fast ngl. Visibly building a control state and passing everything to the US, and there’s nothing we can do about it. If we make them stop now, they’ll try again next week. Just like chat control.

    10. attentive_brick on

But US citizens already have visa-free access to EEA/EU no?… Why don’t we have it?…

    11. Impractical_Donkey on

I really dont get the EU right now.

One one hand they’re taking a hard stance on especially American tech companies and handing our massive fines.

On the other, they’re handing over massive amount of valuable personal information, trusting them that they can’t exploit it.

      Chatcontrol
      Teen SoMe ban
      And now this!

As an American, fuck the US. Fight every step you can as I know I am/will.

Why is it sometimes the EU parliament is a champion of peoples rights, and sometimes it’s just the worst. Where’s the consistency?

    14. DigSpelledBackwards on

We need to clean house in the European Commission.

    15. DigSpelledBackwards on

Why would the US respect an agreement lol

      This is data for free

    16. JazzlikeDiamond558 on

Nothing. EU can and will do – nothing.

And people should stop deluding themselves with fairytales about EU or EU army or EU whatever.

Britain has already left and IS NOT coming back. If France makes similar decision, EU will cease to exist even on paper.

EU-MAGA can downvote as much as they like, but the union is so dependent on US technology that it is impossible to change.

Or do you want to stop gaming on windows, using VISA, AMEX or MasterCard and stop using Android and iOS phones?

    17. Would be like the US giving this info on Americans to late 1930s Germany. I don’t know, maybe not? Humanity seems to never learn obvious lessons. A complete ban on travel to and from the US is warranted.

    18. Any-Original-6113 on

It looks like the Americans will get access to data on ALL Europeans

There are only 20 supporters on the petition right now, look at all these upvotes and comments?

Do they never learn? Why is EU just trying to fullfil whatever trump wants and never standup to him?

    25. GreatAffablyEvil on

Is this the great “independence” the EU is supposed to be giving you that I keep hearing about?

    26. Crazy-Canuck463 on

You know, entering the EU this June for my first time, i was figerprinted and photographed. I assume the biometric data canada has on me was shared with the EU. I didnt really see it as a big deal. Now, I’m not saying they are the same, because I honestly dont have any idea how either system works. Is the data the EU collects upon entry different than the data the americans will want to collect?

    27. Armadilla-Brufolosa on

I would never go to America, even if they paid me!
After Israel and North Korea, it is one of the most dangerous countries in the world and one of the worst dictatorships.

Why the hell do they need my data?!?
