These photos make the old one look better because of the cool promise of the future vibe.

But it’s not the the old ome was better. It’s that the old PHOTO is better than the new one, as a photo, becuase of the extra colour and how the 80s japanese feeling neon tech pops against the historical backdrop.

But in person, it’s different. It looks much nicer today in person.

There’s a special place in hell for people who allow this kind of architecural devastation

Which moron was responsible for green lighting literal floor to ceiling hanging ads on what is presumably a fairly old and possibly historic building?

    4. As a Milanese it’s much better now. Milano in the 80″ was…. much more dirty and dangerous. Add too many ads everywhere like the foto here show..

Hate it when I go outside and there is a piazza del duomo between the advertisements

This somehow seems like an impossible development in the capitalist system we live in

It looks much nicer now, but I think the old photo is better? It might just be the sunshine, idk.

My university building was covered in about 99% with a freacking tarp style add. An entire wall was turned into a display screen. Absolute abomination. Screw all the people allowing for it in these times.

I only saw the monument in the top photo after the bottom photo.

    10. 1985 certainly has a vibe to it.

I’m not saying it’s better, but it’s ‘something’.

I’m fighting the same battle in my country.

Why would I ever want to be force-fed adds into my retina, instead of seeing buildings?!

Why does JVC (or whatever brand) have the right to force itself into my day?

    12. Just was there a couple of days ago! There was a huge cola ad opposite the duomo and a big Gucci logo on top of one of the buildings.

      Great city btw

    13. It used to look so cool. It’s a shame hownit has been ruined

Did they paint those buildings a more soothing color? They look white behind the ads in the first picture.

      Wonderful transformation.

Every year we move further and further away from the Blade Runner ideal.

In 1985 average people were living in those buildings and needed the money from advertisement to maintain the building. In 2025 the house is owned by corporations that rent out the rooms.

No, the world didn’t become “prettier”. It became more sterile. You can bet the profit margins are higher on those polished buildings while the people that built the city have left to live elsewhere.

    17. involuntarheely on

and the duomo (behind the photographer) was all dirty

1985’s Milan looks like today’s Warsaw 😄 Much better now.

Great, now we can see the building and the statue again. Or is it a different statue, it’s difficult to see.

Nothing has ever been prettier with branding and propaganda. I remembered I saw that huge one from Samsung in the Opera Garner and it made me never want to get somethig from them.

Goddamn neoliberal globalization ruins all tradit … oh wait

    22. Looks kind of like Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen but the before picture is just now.
