Il famoso scrittore francese Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) scrisse un libro dopo il suo viaggio nel Caucaso nel 1858.
Nel primo capitolo di Viaggi nel Caucaso (Viaggio nel Caucaso), ha registrato le sue osservazioni sui popoli della regione:
“Ogni popolo che vive nel Caucaso ha le sue caratteristiche. I persiani commerciano la seta, i Lezgin vendono tappeti e i tartari [Azerbaijanis] commerciare in armi. Gli armeni non hanno particolari specialità; vendono tutto ciò che può essere venduto, anche le cose che non possono essere vendute. In generale, gli armeni non mi hanno lasciato un’impressione favorevole.
È detto:
Se un tartaro annuisce, fidati di lui.
Se un persiano ti tende la mano, fidati di lui.
Se un alpinista ti dà la sua parola, credigli.
Ma se fai un accordo con un armeno, firma il documento davanti ai testimoni e tieni con te due testimoni, in modo che non possa poi negare la propria firma.

Btw, most Armenians think “Armenians are better fighters”. They (and their Persian brethern ofc) accuse Azerbaijan of “falsifying history”, yet don’t know a thing about Karabakh Khanate and how it came to be. Armenian Melikdoms were conquered by the Otuz-İki confederation, that’s all.
If they mention Karabakh Khanate and Panah Ali Khan at all, it is so with the absurd claim of “Panah Ali Khan and his Armenian ally Melik Shahnazar tricked Armenian Meliks” (Melik Shahnazar was a vassal of Panah Ali Khan, not an “ally”). That is, if they don’t claim Panah Ali Khan and the Otuz-İki nomadic confederation were Persians first (LOL).
Also never tell them that Shusha was built by Azerbaijanis and was initially called Panahabad, after Panah Ali Khan.
What exactly is the goal of this post? The only thing that Dumas tells us here is that Armenians lived in desperate times and that strong armenophobia was present in the region.
Edit. He was also antisemitic. He wasn’t fond of merchants in general.
Armenians are the same today as they were yesterday. So, was Dumas a racist too? :))
