    1. >The American recycling company Freepoint Eco-Systems is going to build a recycling plant in the Ghent port area. Some 80,000 tons of waste plastic will be processed there every year. The plant will be one of the largest of its kind and will be the first advanced recycling facility for plastic in Europe, the company says.

      >Daan Schalck, the CEO of North Sea Port, which is aiming for a climate-neutral port by 2050 […] ‘We encourage the development of circular chains, in which raw materials and products are constantly reused.’

      >The port not only has access to waste streams, it is also well located to provide for smooth transportation via Western European inland waterways, highways, railroads and pipelines.

      >The site may be expanded in the future with an additional plot, which will allow a total of up to 160,000 tons of waste plastic to be recycled annually.

      >Freepoint Eco-Systems plans to begin construction as soon as the permitting process is completed, probably in 2025.
