I remember learning in ROTC class that it was better to wound an enemy soldier than to kill them because a severely wounded soldier will consume more resources than a dead one.

But seeing how little resources Russia expends on its troops, fit, wounded or dead, it probably just makes the most sense to send as many to their graves as possible. Light ‘em up, Ukraine.

They transport them on the top, because if they were inside, they wouldn’t be able to evacuate when/if BTR was hit. There is more reasons for troops calling BTRs “coffins on wheels” than just their shape …

It is not unusual for troops to ride on the outside of APC’s, as it allows them to quickly bail from the vehicle in the event of an attack, provides better situational awareness and makes room for more cargo. It could be one or all of these reasons. The interior of some thinly armored vehicles are little protection from most modern weapons, anyway.

Russian soldiers prefer to ride on top because of the poor anti tank mine protection on the inside of the vehicles they use.
