Failed is an understatement. Not only did they not reach any objective rather that be retaking Kharkiv or forcing AFU to relocate forces from one part of the line to Kharkiv. This was also the event that caused most of Ukraine’s allies to allow them to use their weapons across the border in Russia. If Russia didn’t try this offensive Zelensky might have had to gotten each country’s permission one at a time over a long period, if at all.
To add to that all the equipment and men dead to temporarily hold 50 sq/km of new land for a couple of weeks. Plus if they try to launch another offensive in Belarus, Ukraine might not allow them to even gather on forces in Belarus the way they did Belgorod.
Neither side seems able to push hard at the moment.
