      >In recent years, Lantis has struggled with PFAS contamination at its yards on the Antwerp Left Bank and in Zwijndrecht. De Oosterweelbouwheer concluded a settlement with 3M in 2018, which was a historic emitter of the substance with its factory in Zwijndrecht. In that settlement, 3M promised to store the most contaminated soil at the Oosterweelwerf on its own factory site, in a safety berm, pending remediation.

      >As the standards for earthmoving became stricter, this solution became impossible, and Lantis also had to remove much more contaminated soil than initially anticipated.

      >A remediation agreement between the Flemish government and 3M in 2022 was supposed to provide relief, and stipulated, among other things, that Lantis would receive 100 million euros from 3M as a historical polluter: 50 million euros ‘cash’, immediately, and 50 million euros in services to be provided. 3M would also fulfill its remediation obligation.

      >However, Lantis now states that 3M continues to “drag its feet” two years later. The services have not yet been provided, and the remediation is being delayed, it is said.

En al die mensen waarvan de waarde van hun bouwgrond nu lager is omdat ze in PFAS gebied zitten? Die krijgen natuurlijk niks.
