When it says export I strongly suspect it means sell. At a guess they have calculated that they can now make more money more easily from arms exports than they can from laundering Russian money.

You know, it’s not even funny or interesting anymore. First, there are again many more steps ahead. Second, I’m not even sure they can make any significant impact now. After over 2 years following medias it looks to me that they produce mostly “boutique” weapons so beloved by Western European countries – cool, superexpensive and FEW IN NUMBER. They won’t make any difference, even a local one in Ukraine. Any ‘cool’ modern systems are dying under FPV drones almost as well as old ones. I’d like to hear – what exactly would change if they get this authorisation tomorrow – what will be SENT (not what COULD be sent in theory). A few Leopard-1 tanks (if they are not already in Germany)? A bit more ammunition for Gepards that is now produced in a new production line anyway? If I’m wrong – please let me know!

The Swiss are fine exporting to countries in conflict, but they prefer to do it with a degree of deniability (there was a scandal uncovered by journalists years ago where they found Swiss weapons exported directly to African conflict zones).

Here they would be doing so in the open with full oversight and scrutiny, it’s hard to keep up the neutrality act when your businesses aren’t neutral.
