Maybe you should’ve used a less missleading title?
It isn’t the German government split on it. It’s parliament split on it and the government not has the 2/3 majority in parliament AND the states to change the constitution without the opposition (which is actually the ones against it).

Why would anyone be against that? I find it so absurd. Clearly the minority group is facing abuse and day-to-day problems.
I get more racism compared to transphobia in my day to day life in Germany, but I know many friends going through so much trouble just because of their gender identity. It’s very unfair.
