Places to watch:

Korenovo: if Ukraine is able to secure Korenovo then they have a large settlement to anchor the Eastern edge of the breach around. From there they push to Rylsk. If they can take Rylsk (big if, considering the amount of Russian reinforcements pouring in) then they’ve effectively cut off everything from Rylsk South and West all the way to the Ukrainian border as the bulk of the roads run to Rylsk. That area will like fall under Ukrainian control in short order there after.

Martynovka: been the site of pitched battles for the past few days, with Ukrainians holding the North side. If Ukraine can take Martynovka that’s pretty much the deathnell for the resistance in Sudzha. The last MSR in and out of Sudzha runs to the West of it, and with Ukraine having crossed the river to the South of Sudzha, whoever is commanding the holdouts is going to have to either choose to stay and fight and rapidly get encircled, or pull their people out of back roads heading directly east of Sudzha that are well within range of Mahknovka, which has already been assessed as in Ukrainian control. Basically unless Russia pours in reinforcements to Martynovka, Sudzha is going to either be that place of a slaughter or a mass surrender.

I thought Sudzha was already under full control earlier? Did Ukraine get pushed back?

Sudzha is an interesting target. That’s where gas is sent from Russia to Ukraine and onward to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

The latter two now ruled by pro-Russian folks. And Hungary constantly blocking EU aid to Ukraine.

Ukraine controlling that gas flow could be interesting influence. Especially as winter approaches.
