Lei e la sua famiglia emigrarono in Canada dopo la guerra e, visti i sentimenti dell’epoca in cui sua madre nascondeva molte informazioni sulla loro vita in Germania, qualsiasi aiuto per trovare maggiori informazioni sarebbe apprezzato, anche se è solo un punto nella giusta direzione.

Sounds polish to me. I guess the town was in the east part of Germany and is now in Polen. The Poles renamed most the cities which were German, so now there are no traces of this town. You can try it in a Polish sub, maybe some there can help you.
The town is Polish and belonged to Germany only for a brief period of time (Sep 1939 until early 1945) during the occupation by Nazi Germany in WW2.

Chances are that this place was occupied and the name listed is the name the germans gave this place, which got renamed.
Look up the name of her father. If she hid a lot of stuff, chances are he was “enthusiastic” about the whole nazi thing, and you can figure out where he was stationed during that time.
