Does 50% of the Russian government income run through the pipeline Ukraine controls? That seems high

An article with info about this would be helpful. I checked a few and didn’t get much about the income claim.

Post a picture without providing a link. Turn a proper headline into something that is obviously wrong – why?

    5. Half of Russia’s *piped* gas revenue *to Europe* goes through that system, but it’s on life support anyway.

Ukraine has already confirmed it will not be renewing the transit agreement after December, so all Russian gas sales through that pipe have a few months to go at best.

And gas is no longer a major part of Russia’s revenue : Gazprom has slumped to a $6.9bn loss last year and looks likely to double that this year. They’re still making plenty of money on oil, alas, so that and LNG are next on the list.

    6. in the article it says this pipeline would have stopped delivering gas anyway at the end of the year because it runs through Ukraine and they are not renewing the contract with Russia.

Why not just take it out fully and be done with it?

The pipeline runs through Ukraine so if Ukraine wanted to shut it off, they could have done so but it would have angered the western countries who depend upon that gas.

But the facility they captured is a metering station.

So I don’t know if this is correct, but maybe if Ukraine cuts the meters, the gas still flows to the west, but Russia doesn’t know how much was sent and thus can’t bill for it. West happy, Russia very unhappy. Win-win.
