      Those guys who surrendered were all somehow rich enough to bribe the army into letting them stay in russia instead of being thrown into Ukraine. My guess is some upper class parents are demanding their sons back.

      So someone importants son was in the FSB border defence crew that wasn’t prepared for real action, only the clout of being in the military during the invasion of Ukraine.

      They need to get some background checks on these captives. If sons and daughters of oligarchs and the such, they should keep them in Ukraine as a bargaining chip to end the war sooner.

      The Russian Mothers organization put lots of pressure on the Kremlin over Afghanistan and Putin is terrified of a similar political fallout. He wants all of those Mobik PoW’s back and he wants them returned asap. This is a major humiliation and politically damaging for him

      All part of Ukraine’s plan I gather.
      Ukraine’s manoeuvres have been ballsy yet, so calculated that it’s truly impressive.
      History will view it in wonder.
      I’m saddened by the loss that Ukrainians have suffered and all the heroes that didn’t make it but I’m also inspired by their strength.

      Doesnt even need to be super important alot of these kids would be from the more well of regions like moscow and st petersberg given a “safe” job to keep up appearences all is going well. Putin is probably shitting himself thinking about what happens when they find out their sons have been captured and the political fallout of the big cities being angry

      I think the russian system works like this: They formally keep their Ukrainian soldiers, but they destroy them mentally and physically, so they will hardlybe able fight again. In exchange they get back well fed material, that they can send straight back to the front.

      I’m in favor of an exchange for Ukrainian heroes, but it’s better to let these new POWs simmer for a bit. The longer Ukraine has those shiny bois of moscow, the more uncomfortable things are for the autocracy.
