Never forget Yuriy. He has a very sad, tragic, and extremely important job. He carries a very heavy burden and I hope he has friends and family who will help him carry this burden for years to come.

Russia has doomed itself people will never forgive this.
He lost his own son on this war. This is tragic. I am am terribly sorry.
Those like Yuriy are no less a hero than those that battle on the front lines. One of the tenets of Western countries is all efforts are made to repatriate those that have fallen in battle. To this day, the United States will work with former enemies and send people to the remotest corners of this planet to return soldiers and bring closure to family. A sentinel stands guard 24 hours a day at the Tomb of the Unknowns under the harshest heat of the sun, the bitterest of cold winter, and hurricane force storms to honor that that remain lost. Even under a severe shortage of personnel, resource constraints, ongoing battles, and the dangers of unexploded munitions, Ukraine is actively doing the same to honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice. The country could be easily forgiven for not doing so but they choose to do what is right for those that have answered the call to serve against fascist invaders. The heart and resolve of the the Ukrainian people never ceases to amaze me.
On the other side you have Russia. The wounded at treated with hatred and contempt. The government propaganda paints the injured as a drain on resources. Disgusting terms are given to those with lifelong injuries. Those that have lost a leg are called “kangaroos” as they awkwardly walk with a bounce from ill fitting prosthetics. “Flounders” are those that have lost an eye and named after the fish that can on see from one side of their face. The worst ridicule goes to those with the worst injuries. Search for “samovar” and you will see what those without arms and legs are called. Then there is the dead. We have all seen the videos of abandoned bodies all over the battlefield and left to rot. If anything, Putin’s government loves this. Just label them as “deserters” to avoid paying benefits to family. It may be months before a death is even reported as corrupt officers continue to draw the salaries of the dead. Disgusting monsters at all levels.
