Yes, my mother’s a turkish cypriot and she met my father ( a mainland Turk) while studying in Turkey and they decided to raise us in Cyprus. I don’t have the cypriot accent and when I was a kid, I was called this slang by a barista at a cafe. My mother was furious when she heard it. There’s definitely racism towards mainland Turks in the north.
