Just wrote to my congressman this morning asking him to do everything he can to untie Ukraine’s hands and allow deep strikes of military targets inside Russia with U.S. munitions.
Realistically we’re in an election cycle so I don’t see anything happening until after that. But it would go a long way toward creating conditions for a Russian military collapse within Ukraine, regime change in Moscow (which could at least create short term chaos that could be taken advantage of), and accelerated degradation of Russian conventional forces.
I told him, politely in so many words, that as an OEF veteran it sucks that we were willing to pump so much effort and cash and blood into a shitshow “war on terror” for 20 years but now we’re kid-gloving a true threat to a sovereign democracy and to global stability, for the sake of appeasing war criminals.
Stay up over there, lots of us here in the U.S. are rooting for you every day and fully support a serious loosening of restrictions. Our internal politics are screwed up but have a real chance of improving in the coming months.

Idk if that’s the best strategy. US should just allow them to do what they want. Otherwise it’s like the US is selecting targets in Russia they want to destroy, and give Ukraine the weapons to do it, which, imo, is more of a direct attack on Russia that just letting Ukraine do what they want with your weapons.

That’s not going to work. The US permitting strikes on specific targets is worse, as far as escalation management is concerned, than a blanket permission.
